Duties Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Nurse 1 ensures that the medical/nursing needs of our patients and staff, evaluated in our clinic are met.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES not limited to:

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Supervisor the Registered Nurse will independently perform the following duties:
  • Prepare clients for scheduled appointments and procedures, including obtaining pertinent medical and medication history, allergy screening and vital signs. Prepare charts, records, consults, diagnostic forms and lab requests.
  • Communicate with family, staff and health care team to ensure excellence and continuity of care.
  • Maintain and order supplies, forms and medical equipment in exam rooms, and other clinic rooms. Check medical equipment including code cart and refrigerators.
  • Computer duties: Enter client data and current medications into clinical data base and specialized medication program. Assist clinicians with in-person and tele-med visits.
  • Medication: obtain and assess client’s list of medication and document in computer program. Provide clinician with accurate current list of medications.
  • Venipuncture: Obtain ordered specimens for clinical evaluations, research projects and research trial clients. Prepare lab forms, perform venipuncture, and assist with preparation and shipping of specimens.
  • Specimens: assist with obtaining buccal swabs and saliva collection.
  • Medications: Calculate, administer and record control drugs.
  • Medical procedures: Prepare for all diagnostic tests (including EMG / Nerve Conduction); assist MD with procedure, monitor and document necessary information during procedures.
  • Medical Procedure Duties Assist with skin biopsies, Botox procedure, and ischemic exercise tests.
  • Drug Trials: assist with clients who are enrolled in drug trials
  • Insurance approvals: work with MD and insurance companies to obtain insurance approvals for genetic testing.
  • Employee health: Work with the Registered Nurse 3 (Infection Control) Provide TB testing, tetanus, Hepatitis B vaccines and flu vaccines to employees. Perform venipuncture and prepare for physical exam for new employees. Provide first-aid and emergency care to employees as needed.
  • Employee physicals: Work with the Registered Nurse 3 (Infection Control) to assist MD with employee health screenings for physicals and evaluations for mask fittings.
  • Ensures compliance with IBR/GJC’s Policy/Procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Completion of nursing procedures/tasks and nursing assessments
  • Ensures appropriate medication orders, blood work orders and follow up appointments are communicated with patient/parent/staff.
  • Serves as a member of the inter-disciplinary team as needed
  • Attend team reviews and present information as needed
Additional Comments
  • Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the increased hiring salary and geographic pay differential. Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 18 ($61,270), Increased Hiring Salary ($8,416), Downstate Adjustment ($3,026), and Geographic Differential ($35,000). Geographic Differential added to the job rate ($115,938) for PS&T Grade 18. Evening Shift Differential (7% of base salary) will also be added.

  • As a participating agency in the Health Care and Mental Hygiene Worker Bonus Program (HWB), direct care employees may be eligible to earn up to $3000 in bonuses for qualifying service if they meet specific requirements including continuous service during the appropriate vesting periods.
