The role
We are looking to recruit Remote Operations Geophysicists to work as part of the team within the state-of-the-art Remote Operations Centre (ROC) in Aberdeen. The Remote Operations Centre supports offshore operations utilising innovative and industry leading technology and protocols from our onshore facility. This presents an exciting opportunity for the Remote Operations Geophysicist to be at the forefront of an innovative new way of working for Fugro helping to ensure we are at the forefront of the industry.
The Remote Operations Geophysicists will predominately be involved and responsible for the acquisition, quality control, interpretation and analysis of marine geophysical data, geohazard assessment and the integration of geophysical, environmental and geotechnical data.
With a focus on the generation of client deliverables, you will work as part of the Marine Site Characterisation Client Deliverables team in our shift work within our state-of-the art Remote Operations Centre.
The position will operate on a rotational basis with staff completing a 12-hour shift on a rotational shift pattern. Rotations consist of 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off, for a 12 week period, followed by 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, for an 8 week period.

Who you’ll be working with:
While working in the Remote Operations Centre, you will be working closely with the team of Geophysicists, Data Processors and Geoscience Team Leaders to produce high quality survey reports. You will remotely support live geophysical survey work, such as data acquisition, quality control, interpretation of side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler or magnetometer data.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
  • Monitor acquired data quality on survey vessels, liaise with and assist Party Chief and other survey staff, maintain survey logs.
  • Interpret and integrate of a variety of data and preparation of reports in accordance with contractual specifications, Fugro standards and styles and Quality Assurance documentation; functionally reporting to the ROC Manager and under supervision of Geoscience Supervisor, Geoscience Team Leaders, or Senior Geophysicist as appropriate.
  • Use department IT systems to aid interpretation and reporting.
Who we are looking for:
Essential
  • BSC / MSC or equivalent in a Geophysics, Geology or related discipline.
  • Good understanding of survey and data acquisition principles.
  • An understanding of the geophysical equipment and methods used to investigate the shallow marine environments.
  • Knowledge of data interpretation, mapping, visualisation and plotting software.
  • Practical field experience of marine geophysical survey work, such as data acquisition, quality control, interpretation of side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler and magnetometer data.
  • An excellent communicator (verbally and written) and able to form good working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet project deadlines.
  • Good attention to detail, quality, and safety.
  • Disciplined, self-motivated and flexible team player.
  • Remote Operations Centre role candidates do not have to reside in Aberdeen, but need to be available to work out of the Aberdeen ROC during their on-shift. They can be based anywhere in the UK.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of SonarWiz, Kingdom, Oasis Montaj, ArcMap software.
  • Knowledge of Fugro’s Starfix suite.
  • Experience of undertaking shallow gas / geohazard interpretation from 2DHR seismic data.
  • Experience in the supervision of junior geophysicist staff in the offshore and office environments.
