The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Position Summary
Dr. Jada Brooks is a nationally recognized Indigenous scholar and nurse researcher at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing. Dr. Brooks and her team focus on community-based participatory research, reducing health disparities, cardiovascular health, environmental pollutant exposures, and mindfulness-based stress reduction with American Indians. Dr. Brooks and her team are searching for a Research Assistant to work on multiple research projects and community initiatives in Robeson County.
The Research Assistant (RA) will assist the Project Manager with community initiatives and research projects under Dr. Brooks. The primary purpose of this position is to assist with research activities such as collecting data in a community setting, assist with study recruitment and attend in-person meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Have the ability to follow established compliance guidelines within study protocols and manuals of operational procedures.
- Be able to work and communicate with diverse populations in an effective, professional, and respectful manner.
- Possess a strong ability to efficiently multitask and complete assignments independently, with significant attention to detail.
- Be able to utilize and be comfortable using a virtual platform to meet with community partners, research teams, and research participants.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Working/collaborating with American Indian communities in North Carolina.
- Assisting on multiple projects at once in an academic setting.
- Using online surveys and databases (REDCap, Qualtrics).
- Using Heart Rate Variability devices and software to acquire and analyze data.
- Using actigraphy devices and software to acquire and analyze data.
