  • HIV Status Neutral Support Coordinator at the Ruth Ellis Center (Research Coordinator)

    The Ruth Ellis Center (REC) is a community center for LGBTQ+ young people in Highland Park, MI. Since 2016, Henry Ford Health’s School-Based and Community Health Program has been collaborating with REC to provide medical services in REC’s Health and Wellness Center. Services include primary care, gender affirming care, PrEP for HIV prevention, HIV treatment, and comprehensive sexual health services. The HIV Status Neutral Support Coordinator is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team who works closely with individuals at risk for acquiring HIV to address barriers to care. This role provides a range of client-centered services to address insurance issues, transportation barriers, housing instability, and food insecurity. The Status Neutral Support Coordinator follows-up with the client regarding medical treatment to ensure timely delivery of services, health education and risk reduction, and continuity of care. Experience in HIV services, mental health, and/or homeless services is preferred. LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning) cultural and diversity competency is required along with familiarity with the Ruth Ellis Center’s principles of work: trauma-informed care, harm reduction, restorative justice, and positive youth development.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Assess client for barriers to care and provide supportive services to clients, including assisting with completion of insurance applications, food and transportation assistance/referrals, appointment reminders, and health education.
  • Follow-up with all referrals given to ensure that access to services has occurred.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, behavioral health, and housing service providers as well as any other member of the care coordination team.
  • Input accurate and complete documentation of activities through case notes, assessments, and other forms provided by the agency.
  • Advocate for appropriate services for clients based on needs and assessments.
  • Foster client independence through education, supportive services, and other methods of empowerment and efficacy building.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Youth Advisory Board (YAB) engagement with consumers and community members
  • Empower youth by sharing knowledge of community resources and encourage good decision making
  • Facilitate quarterly meetings to assess consumers and community members needs
  • Attend professional summits, meetings, and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Works independently, following established policies and procedures, performs scientific investigative research and participates in carrying out research objectives.
  • Assists in the development of new methodologies and prepares material for incorporation into publications or for use in laboratory procedures.
  • Researches literature in the field.
  • Conducts experiments and collects and analyzes data using various degrees of statistical methodology.
  • Acts as a project leader and resource person for personnel related matters.
  • Performs duties of Research Assistant and Senior Research Assistant as described in the job descriptions of those positions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university.
  • Scientific discipline appropriate to the research department.
  • A Master's Degree or Ph.D. could be utilized in this position.
  • Between one (1) to two (2) years with a Ph.D., three (3) to five (5) years with a Master's Degree, and five (5) or more years with a Bachelor's Degree of laboratory research experience in the scientific field pertinent to the area of research conducted is required.
  • Requires a working knowledge of statistics, computer programming and research methodologies.
  • Requires manual dexterity to operate complex equipment.
