Performs biomedical &/or social-behavioral research by administering tests &/or questionnaires following protocols; collecting, compiling, tabulating &/or processing responses; gathering information; &/or assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports. Completes all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).

• Performs height, weight, blood pressure, questionnaire administration, cognitive function testing, spirometry testing, and all other aspects of participant research study visits which may include blood drawing and/or processing. Selected candidate must be able to speak and read Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
• The Research Assistance perform recruitment and data collection for the MESA Research Study at Northwestern under the Project Manager and PI .

Specific Responsibilities:

Technical

• Recruits study participants.
  • Assists with recruitment.
• Reviews & obtains informed consent.
• Schedules study visits with participants.
• Conducts interviews.
  • Performs all aspects of research participants’ visits, including height, weight, blood pressure, questionnaire administration, cognitive function testing, spirometry testing, and all other aspects of participants’ visits, and may include blood drawing and processing.
• Scores test results.
• Collects survey data.
  • Enters all data into multiple databases, spreadsheets, and calendars.
• Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.
  • Participate in study meetings.

Administration

• Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.
  • Responsible for other duties such as preparing charts for the participant visits, setting up and cleaning the exam rooms before and after the visits, entering data as needed, performing data and equipment quality control checks, etc.

Miscellaneous

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
• Must complete Northwestern's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

• Selected candidate will have the ability to deal with elderly people from all cultures and socio-economic levels in a friendly manner.
• Selected candidate must be able to speak and read Mandarin and/or Cantonese in order to conduct participant visits with Chinese participants.
• Willingness to pitch in and help the study team members wherever help is required is a necessity.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 years of practical research study or related experience is required.
• Phlebotomy experience is preferred. If no previous experience, willingness to learn phlebotomy, if needed, is a strong plus.
