About the Department
One of the first departments founded at the University of Chicago was the Department of Chemistry. Since then, The University of Chicago has been the recipient of more than 73 Nobel Prize recipients, 15 of which came from the Department of Chemistry. Our current faculty have considerable strength in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, as well as in interdisciplinary research that delves into biology, physics, and materials science.
Job Summary
The principal contribution of a Research Technician is providing routine or standardized laboratory support of research projects under direct supervision. In this laboratory, projects are developed using molecular biology techniques to study mechanisms of control of genetic expression under the mentorship of Dr. Chuan He. The He Lab develops novel genome-wide epigenetic and epitranscriptomic mapping technologies with direct translational applications. The background needed for this position of Research Specialist includes molecular biology, genomics, and biochemistry.
Responsibilities

Performs research in collaboration with other laboratory personnel.

Maintains and distributes stock of supplies and reagents.

Serves as a resource for collecting data.

Provides assistance to the supervisor with research projects, complying with established procedures or protocols.

Performs basic laboratory techniques.
-
Prepares cfDNA samples.
-
Isolates cfDNA and gDNA from tissue.
-
Constructs 5hmC-Seal-seq libraries for 5hmC profiling.
-
Assists lab members in preparing and conducting experiments.
-
Assists in the preparation of samples for sequencing.
-
Provides technical and administrative support for a research project.
-
Assists with the installation, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.
Experience:

Perform duties in a laboratory setting for one year.

Basic molecular biology laboratory techniques.
