About the role

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic research technician with an interest in DNA repair and structural biology to work in the laboratory of Dr Amanda Chaplin. This is a 60% part-time position for 3 years and will be to support the structural investigation of protein-DNA complexes involved in DNA repair mechanisms.

The role will be to place orders, maintain laboratory stocks, over-express and purify proteins and insect cell maintenance. This position will also be involved in making cryo-EM grids, screening and data collection and analysis. This role will also involve general health and safety procedures, laboratory equipment maintenance and assisting other members of the research group.

The group is part of the Leicester Institute of Structural and Chemical Biology (LISCB), one of five flagship research institutes recently established by the University of Leicester, UK. We have excellent access to state-of-the-art structural biology technologies including a Krios cryo-EM microscope housed within the department equipped with Falcon 3EC and GATAN K3 detector as well as the Diamond and ESRF Synchrotrons.

About you

The successful candidate will ideally have completed a BSc degree in a relevant subject area (such as Biochemistry). The candidate should be independent in planning, running, documenting, and troubleshooting experiments and particularly good at being part of a team. You should have effective interpersonal skills, ability to contribute to research and be able to produce high quality data.
