The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Researcher I to assist biological and genetic research in Drosophila (Fruit flies) laboratory.


The Researcher I will set up genetic crosses, make fly food and maintain fly stocks, as well as handle routine lab maintaining, ordering the lab supply and flies stocks. The position will also assist graduate students and postdocs with their projects, and training to volunteering undergraduates.


General Responsibilities

Under direct supervision:

  • To perform various support functions in a research laboratory.
  • To maintain equipment, computer database and lab supplies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs various support functions in a research laboratory using appropriate procedures to generate and validate data of sufficient quality for project development, publications and grant submissions.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment and the facility.
  • Maintains and restocks supplies.
  • Maintains computer database.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $15.00 - $19.66 Hourly

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field
  • OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

  • Theoretical knowledge of biological sciences.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills to successfully set priorities, meet established deadlines and recognize new problems with changing priorities and interruptions.
  • Highly organized, effective at multitasking and adept at juggling changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
