Job description
RPS is looking for a Residues Manager in the Bedford Laboratory. You will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all incoming non-regulatory agrochemical residue samples prior to testing and managing the project coordinators to perform their duties in the delivery of these projects. This is a key role in which you will be working closely with the laboratory staff and commercial team to ensure a quality service and on-time project delivery for our clients.
What you’ll be doing
- Responsible for overseeing and coordinating incoming non-regulatory agrochemical residue samples and managing the project coordinators to perform their duties in the delivery of these projects.
- Manage the client expectations and monitor communication between the sample coordinators and the clients for work received.
- Provide a bridging role between the sales team and the laboratory to ensure client queries and requests are actioned promptly.
- Ensure all deliveries are catalogued and registered efficiently and that clients are kept informed on progress.
- Collate and draft residue trial reports with the information provided by the clients (trial protocols/reports) and the results produced by the laboratory.
- Responsible for adhering to company Health and Safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensuring all Quality documentation is followed, adhered to and maintained in-line with procedures developed by the Quality Manager.

Who we’re looking for
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrable ability to effectively communicate at various levels within an organisation.
- Experience of managing small teams of people
- Prior experience in a scientific role in a laboratory will be ideal or experience gained in a field trial role
- A proven ability to work alone or with minimal supervision
- A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is required in this role
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment, and an ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- A thorough understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and similar applications
- Experience of working with a Laboratory Information Management System will be useful, likewise any prior experience of drafting analytical residue reports
