Role: Respiratory Therapist
Location: Nyack, New York (Onsite)

Description
Shift: Night
1. Working Time: 6:30PM-7:30AM
2. Travel: NO
3. Working Days: Rotating weekdays, weekends and holidays
A. Job Summary: Administers respiratory care modalities and evaluates results, under general supervision and in accordance with a physician’s written order.
B. Essential Job Qualifications
1. Experience: 1 year work/clinical practice in acute care setting preferred.
2. Training/Certification: BLS and ACLS certification
3. Licensure: Current registration of New York State Respiratory Therapist License or limited work permit

Environment and Demands
1. Environmental Demands: Patient care areas; unpleasant sights and odors; may transfer to another facility to provide care.
2. Essential Physical and Cognitive Demands, Manual Dexterity: On feet most of day; lifts/pushes moderate to heavy equipment; constant exposure to infection; exposure to emotionally stressing situations; eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity and coordination required; able to learn computer skills.

C. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

1. Initiates, monitors and weans patients on mechanical ventilation according to established departmental
policies.
2. Uses specialized techniques to obtain and analyze arterial blood; maintains ABG machines and required documentation according to established departmental policies.
3. Responds to emergency calls, assists in administering CPR,and transports patients according to established
departmental policies.
4. Sets up equipment and administers therapeutic modalitiesaccording to established departmental policies.
5. Completes equipment rounds according to established department policies.
6. Completes all information management responsibilitiesaccording to established departmental policies.
7. Prepares and maintains patient’s Medical Record and department records according to established
departmental policies.
8. Participates in new staff orientation and provides training and inservice to hospital personnel.
9. Assists other employees in meeting their job objectives while fulfilling their own in a satisfactory fashion.
10. Maintains appropriate inventory of departmental supplies and informs department management when inventory levels are low.
11. Performs all assigned job activities, even those remotely related to their primary job.
12. Supports cooperative efforts between and among departments.
13. Conducts all department activities in a courteous, professional and timely manner with a collaborative spirit.
14. Supports departmental processes consistent with the hospital mission.

Addendum:
Age Specific Competence FOR THOSE STAFF WITH REGULARCLINICAL CONTACT
1. Within the scope of practice, assumes responsibility, as necessary, for the assessment, treatment and care of patients of all ages, from neonate to geriatric.
2. Displays competency in obtaining and interpreting the patient’s behavior based upon an understanding of cognitive, biopsychosocial, and aging processes.
3. Displays an understanding of the developmental needs of the patient when planning and implementing treatment or services.
