Job SummaryThe incumbent in this position performs responsible professional, administrative and analytical work developing, implementing, and assessing appropriate risk management, insurance, and safety/loss control programs. Provides research analysis and assessment of newly developed or expanded programs with recommendations to management concerning liability issues. Provides supervisory and employee training in safety and loss prevention. Manages the daily operations, budget and personnel working with the Risk Management Department.
This position reports to the County Administrator. The incumbent in this position supervises the Risk Management Department personnel and operations. The purpose of this position is to provide for the appropriate combination of liability risk avoidance, transfer, prevention, and control to afford the greatest protection and benefit to Douglas County in the most efficient manner. Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in risk management, business/public administration, or a closely related discipline
Five years professional work experience in risk management in the public or private sector
National or state certification in risk management preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Must be 21 years of age or older
Ability and willingness to drive a county vehicle.
Must meet all eligibility requirements established by the Board of Commissioners
Must be willing to submit to a random drug and alcohol screening as directed
Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)
Knowledge of the principles and practices of risk management, safety and loss control techniques and occupational safety policies and procedures
Knowledge of vehicular and general liability laws, insurance, accounting, budgeting, and business management
Knowledge of the safety rules and regulations mandated by federal and state law, basic medical terminology, and a working knowledge of all applicable titles of the ADA and relevant laws
Ability to organize, analyze, prepare, and interpret insurance information to assist in management decision making
Ability to develop, implement and present safety and training programs using various computer applications, presentation techniques, photography, and audio-visual equipment
Ability to deal tactfully, effectively, and equitably with internal and external customers and the public in less-than-ideal circumstances
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to speak effectively before large and small groups on topics relating to risk management and safety
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
Ability to operate a personal computer, telephones, copiers, and other general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software
Salary: Annually $85,000 to $98,500; plus full benefits package
