Job Highlights:

SSM is dedicated to early breast cancer detection. In order to best facilitate patient care, a novel hybrid clinical and administrative role has been developed to launch a robust breast cancer risk program for the St. Louis region. This program will be under the direction of the recently developed Regional Medical Director for Breast Imaging.

The ideal candidate has a nursing background in breast health (such as nurse navigation) and has a deep fund of knowledge for breast cancer risk assessment tools, pros and cons of screening modalities for breast cancer detection, high risk genetic syndromes and the implications for high risk pathology results.

In this role, the program coordinator can expect to spend a substantial portion of time devoted to clinical education and outreach with referring/community health care providers. These encounters will help to bridge communication gaps and establish trust and rapport to promote program referrals. Additionally, significant time will be spent devoted to clinical education and community outreach, with particular attention to historically underserved patients in the region. Novel approaches to developing community partnerships will be explored.

In partnership with the regional medical director and other clinical and administrative stakeholders, the program coordinator will develop educational materials involving the high risk program (brochures, presentations, website-based media pieces). As needed, the program coordinator will also provide education and training to the breast center nurse navigators to ensure they are aware of best practices and clinical information regarding breast cancer risk assessment.

The program coordinator will be engaged in interdisciplinary committee meetings involving all matters of breast health. The ideal candidate will possesses the requisite skill set for patient facing care, system operations, and problem solving abilities to navigate inherent challenges that may arise in launching a program.

The PC will have support and mentorship from the regional medical director, and clinical stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops program goals and infrastructure to align with defined business strategy.
  • Manages program through creating program plans, management tools and reporting capabilities.
  • Leads cross-functional teams and ensures resources are assigned to meet program goals.
  • Recommends program budget and monitors and adjusts plan as resource requirements change.
  • Communicates and documents program quality outcomes and progress metrics.
  • Addresses and resolves project issues to ensure goals remain on track.
  • Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
  • As an SSM Health nurse, I will demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model. Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide his/her response to the current and evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and our patient populations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years' registered nurse experience with demonstrated progressive leadership responsibility

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.

Licenses / Certifications:

Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA), Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Work Location or Compact Multi-State License
