Job Description:

Description: The Disease Specific Program Coordinator for Patient Blood Management provides leadership to promote excellence in patient care for the disease specific program. This position coordinates the planning, development and implementation of the patient blood management program goals and operations, for accreditation or certification.

Typical Duties:

  • Accountable for the planning, development and implementation of the patient blood management program.

  • Coordinates and oversees ongoing performance improvement processes.

  • Develops and coordinates staff and other health professional’s education to meet requirements for the patient blood management disease specific program accreditation or certification.

  • Represents the hospital at local, regional and national levels, manages and coordinates all aspect of documentation for the accreditation or certification process and program requirements as mandated by the certification or accrediting body.

  • Monitors program metrics, identifies benchmarks and establishes opportunities for improvement, coordinates best practices across the care continuum, provides aggregate and summarized program data as required and assists with database management.

  • Clinical expert and resource for review of the administration of blood products and monitors nursing documentation of blood product administration.

  • Provides the organization with appropriate tactics for a successful certification survey; participates on the transfusion and patient blood management disease specific committees; and others as assigned.

  • Assists Blood Bank staff, supervisor, nursing, and medical staff in investigating errors, deviations, and near-miss events involving blood component administration outside of the laboratory.

  • Serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers, staff members, and other health professionals.

  • Develops and recommends protocols and guidelines for best practices with patient blood products and documentation specific to the disease specific of cardiac patients across the continuum.

  • Assists with special projects across the JPS Network as assigned by leadership.

  • Collaborates with Physician Champion/s of the patient blood management disease specific program and develops program goals and metrics.

  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


    Required Education and Experience:
  • Masters of Science in a healthcare related field from an accredited College or University within 3 years of hire.
  • 5 plus years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Current RN licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • 2 plus years’ experience in lab or blood bank.
  • 2 plus years of demonstrated experience in participation in healthcare quality improvement initiatives or committees.
  • 1 plus year of experience with Training in Process Improvement such as Rapid Cycle teams, Six Sigma, or Lean Methodology.
  • 2 plus years of nursing experience in ED, and/ or critical care.
