Job description
Rochester Urban Fellows emphasizes civic engagement, promotes learning about urban issues, and encourages a celebration and appreciation for cross-cultural issues and urban life. The components of the program include a summer fellowship and faculty-led urban issue dialogues. Associates serve four days a week with not-for-profit agencies located around the City of Rochester. Placements will be in the focus areas of combating summer learning loss and supporting summer food programs. Associates will also attend daylong seminars mid-week designed to promote the understanding of the history, politics, demographics, and the sociology of urban systems in the area. Seminars are led by University of Rochester faculty along with visiting lecturers. At the end of the program, students will give presentations based on their experiences and share their work at a symposium.

Member Duties : VISTA Summer Associates will work on projects with various non-profit organizations in the Rochester area. These projects fall primarily into the focus areas of education (summer learning) and healthy futures (summer food programs). Several sites will also focus on community engagement. Depending on the host site, VISTA Summer Associates will be involved with community research, outreach, marketing, community partnerships, tutoring, assessment, youth programming, and fundraising activities.
