TDI Technologies, Inc. is seeking candidates for a Software Engineer to support the development, maintenance, and delivery of Machinery Control System (MCS) software for DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers. The selected candidate will be interfacing with U.S. Navy civilian software and systems engineers, support contractors, U.S. Navy ships force, OEMs, and engineering management. The selected candidate will contribute to all aspects of the software life cycle including but not limited to requirements definition, software development, documentation, testing, deployment, support, and maintenance.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of the DDG-51 Machinery Control System
- Design, develop, test, install, and maintain Machinery Control Systems software and supporting software products
- Work with Microsoft Visual Studio and version control (Git)
- Identify and document software and system related problems
- Resolve software problems through debugging, research, and investigation
- Provide distance and onsite support of software problems
- Prepare and maintain new and/or existing software requirements
- Write, review, and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, product specifications, and training materials
- Participate in special projects as required
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support systems engineering efforts for ship control network design, test, analysis, optimization, and life cycle management
2. Work within a team to troubleshoot complex problems in networked systems and test operational software
3. Support systems level testing of multiple versions of software and manage defect identification and correction
4. Review and analysis of technical documentation related to currently fielded and future systems
5. Provide technical input to the design of future user interfaces and system features
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline - Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science is required.
2. 1-3 years of experience in controls, networks, or software related engineering
3. Experience with system integration and/or industrial controls, networks, automation, or cybersecurity is preferred
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance.
2. Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Essential Skills:
1. Software development and operation within Linux and Unix based systems (strong ability to navigate and script in Real Time / Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL))
2. Software development ability in Java
3. Scripting with bash, shell, (also sed, awk, perl)
4. Creating user interfaces using the Java Swing GUI toolkit
5. Ability to read and compare Software Requirement Sheets (SRS) with code
6. Shell scripting (primarily bash, also ksh and csh)
7. Experience using Oracle or other SQL-based databases in applications development
8. Understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems integration with software
9. Ability to work with Model View Controller (MVC) design patterns, rapid development frameworks
10. Understanding of TLS, SSL, and encrypted communications protocols
11. Experience managing software baselines using version control tools such as SubVersion or Git
12. Network data exchange using TCP/IP, UDP, protocols, experience with Unicast, Broadcast, Multi-Cast transmissions
13. Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail for documentation
14. Willingness to lead a team and convey technical problems and solutions to a variety of team members
Additional Preferred Skills:
1. Software development in C++ (utilizing GNU Compiler Collection preferred)
2. Familiarity with agile software development practices
3. Knowledge of CORBA (particularly Java IDL), LDAP, and/or RTI DDS technologies
4. Cisco IOS networking software and switch configuration
5. Experience with vessel integration and control systems for maritime or naval applications
6. Virtualization experience (ESXi and other VMWare products)
7. Experience with "hard" and "soft" real-time systems
8. Familiarity with Cygwin
9. Ability to write in vi text editor
Travel:
This position may require up to approximately 25% travel.
