This job is a flexible position. This means you will be scheduled to cover routes when the Regular Rural Carrier is on their day off, or on vacation. Essentially, this is a substitute position. However, our current Rural Carrier Associates can easily work at least 40 hours per week and there is a lot of opportunity to work more if desired. You can be asked to work in other offices, should the need arise, and we do not have the need for work in East Syracuse, once the training process is complete and you are comfortable. You can, should the situation call for it, be required to work up to 60 hours in a week. This is also a Union position. You are represented by the National Rural Letter Carriers Association (NRLCA). They assist in pay packages and rules/regulations applicable to the job. You are eligible immediately upon hire to enroll in benefits that are provided by the NRLCA until such a time as you become Career and can enroll in benefits directly through the United States Postal Service.
Career progressions are as follows: As a RCA, after one year of service you may bid on Part-Time Flexible Positions and Full Time Regular Rural Carrier Positions. This means that if you bid successfully on one of those positions, you will begin paying into the Thrift Savings Plan, you will begin paying into the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), you will earn Annual Leave and Sick Leave. In addition, once you become a career employee, you can seek out potential Management opportunities as they become available.
To Apply for this position, you must apply on WWW.USPS.COM, go to the bottom of the page and click on "Careers". Search for East Syracuse in the search field. Find the City Carrier Assistant Position and apply.
If you need help with the application process, please reach out to a Manager directly at the East Syracuse NY Post Office. Our customer phone line is 315-437-2113. We are more than happy to assist with the application or questions about the position. In addition, if you do not have a computer to apply, let us know and we can set up a time for you to come in and use one of ours!
