As a part of the SCL Office of the Vice President's unit, the SCL Facilities team supports the student campus experience, by ensuring safe, clean, and operational spaces for students to live, learn, eat, recreate, connect, and engage with each other. With this mission in mind, the team is focused on helping our customers and end-users navigate critical decisions regarding the use and maintenance of their space. They do this through analyzing risks and associated costs, exploring additional services that add value, considering safety and security factors, and ensuring business continuity. Members of this group are passionate about customer service, assess small decisions that can have large impacts, and seamlessly integrate people and physical space. This team is literally the “foundation” upon which the student experience here at Cornell is built.

The Golf Course Grounds Worker will operate a wide variety of golf maintenance and/or landscape construction equipment in order to support golf course maintenance activities for Cornell’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. This role will perform manual labor for general golf property maintenance tasks, including tasks such as turf/shrub/tree maintenance/installation, litter control, and other varies duties ensuring prompt reporting of unsafe conditions or damage to playing surfaces, landscape, equipment, or facilities.

This seasonal position is anticipated to operate March 1 to November 30. Schedules and seasonal lay-off period may be subject to change based on the seasonal demand of golf course operations. Position may require extended working hours including regular evening, early morning, weekend, and holiday hours.

A successful Golf Course Grounds Worker will be a contributing team member who is motivated to learn and takes initiative to be proactive. Utilizing excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service approach, will look to regularly provide helpful and friendly service to our diverse campus community. Additionally, this role will employ independent judgment and effective problem-solving skills to ensure a safe and efficient work environment while supporting, and be accountable to, the organization’s values of and sustainable practices in carrying out everyday responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three years’ experience with landscape or golf course maintenance or construction. This includes a minimum of two years’ experience operating motorized golf, landscape, and/ or landscape construction equipment. Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator license. Experience with and ability to use office products including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, email.

Additional physical requirements include:

• Ability to lift 20 lbs. independently (and occasionally more (up to 100lbs) with assistance)
• Ability to physically inspect facilities on routine basis in support of inspection process and follow up to maintenance needs.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions and extreme temperatures for extended periods.
• Must be free of debilitating bee or pollen allergies, or have the ability to manage such allergy.

Preferred Qualifications:

Formal training in turf management, horticulture, and/or equipment operation desirable.

Understanding of the game of golf and golf maintenance activities.

No relocation assistance is provided for this position. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will be expected to work on campus.
