Role Summary:


This role ensures Baker Hughes can deliver flawless execution by completing laboratory testing of completion and reservoir fluids and supporting ongoing and future operations. This includes formulating and building reservoir drill-in fluids and other completion fluids and testing them at high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. Basic knowledge of chemistry is required for this position. This position works together with other scientists and independently.

As a Lab Scientist, (Completion Fluids) you will prepare and test completion fluids, including reservoir drill-in fluids, breakers, displacement fluids, and clear brines. You will provide technical guidance and insight to support the delivery of multiple customer projects. You will play an essential role in identifying improvements to products, processes, and procedures.


As a Lab Scientist, (Completion Fluids) you will be responsible to:

  • Prepare and test completion fluids, including reservoir drill-in fluids, breakers, displacement fluids, and clear brines.

  • Write and follow technical procedures.

  • Plan and perform testing to support field operations and commercial bids.

  • Record testing results in detail.

  • Prepare clear and accurate documentation and reports.

  • Present results to clients and customers.

  • Label and organize products and samples.

  • Keep laboratory area tidy.

  • Follow all safety regulations and adhere to ISO 9001 standards at a minimum.


To be successful in this role, you should have the following:


  • 2+ years of scientific lab experience

  • 2-3 years of experience testing completions fluids, including reservoir drill-in fluids, breakers, displacement fluids, and clear brines.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a scientific field, preferably Chemistry, or 5+ years of experience working with Completion Fluids

  • Additional completion fluids experience, especially field experience, is preferred

  • Experience preparing and presenting technical laboratory reports.

  • Advanced knowledge of chemistry or geology is preferred

  • Must be able to stand for long periods and lift 25 pounds.

  • Advanced problem solving and project management skills.

  • Excellent organizing, planning, and presentation skills.

  • Must be action-oriented, ethical in value, and customer-focused with a drive for results.

  • Self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision.

  • Sound ability to manage time, make quality decisions, and manage and measure work.

  • In-depth understanding of the design and application of completion fluids, including reservoir drill-in fluids, breakers, displacement fluids, packer fluids, and clear brines.

  • Standard office hours 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm

  • 9/80 hours from 7am-5pm or 8am-6pm with every other Friday off
