Responsibilities:
The Secretary/Receptionist is responsible for all secretarial duties for the appropriate functioning of the Physical Therapy Department including.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for a pleasant greeting, making all interactions as positive as possible for a supporting and satisfying experience for all and not limited to patients, caregivers, physicians, therapists and all hospital staff as necessary.
2. Handles all patients accounts inquiries, both personal and through telephone calls; schedules and confirms all appointments for physical therapy department.
3. Confirms and verifies patients' insurance and request authorization, if necessary, makes sure that doctors’ orders for physical therapy treatment are up to date in accordance to procedures.
4. Maintains patients' charts and registers all patients to guarantee accurate data entry into
Meditech system. Entry of all pertinent information and data, charges, abstracting, authorizations and scans all information into every patient's account.
5. Maintains and reviews all accounts, confirm ICD 10 codes for billing while providing support to the billing department with necessary information to accurately process accounts.
6. Collects insurance co-payments, co-insurance and other patient financial responsibilities and enters it appropriately in-patients accounts and submits all receivables to the cashier for processing.
7. Maintains and reviews patients' accounts in compliance with Medicare guidelines and procedures, complying with Plan of Care submission to doctor's offices for signature.
8. Treats everyone with utmost respect and esteem while demonstrating sensitivity and compassion to all patients and observing patients' and staff rights and confidentiality.
9. Maintains and preserves a cooperative and supportive working relationship with department staff in the performance of their duties.
10. Facilitates and assists in purchasing and ordering of supplies needed by the department.
11. Attends all required hospital in-service programs. Follows and adheres to all HIPPA guidelines and procedures.

12. Follows St. John's Riverside Hospital attendance policy. Regular attendance and timeliness are required in your job. This includes the following:
a. Being at the workstation ready for work by the start of the shift
b. Taking only the time allowed for breaks
c. Remaining at work during the entire shift, unless excused by a supervisor
d. Leaving promptly at the end of the shift, unless given permission from supervisor to work past assigned time.
e. Provide 24-48 hours’ notice if not able to present for work during regular shift the next day, acceptable means via telephone and or SJRH email to supervisor and or other member of the management or a verifiable emergency means notifying/informing the department that it would be impossible to come in for work. A telephone call to the supervisor or any other management staff for tardy start is expected.
Qualifications:
Graduate from high school or secretarial school is required.
