SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – RESIDENTIAL ACCOUNTING / Conifer Realty, Corporate Offices - Rochester, NY
Full-time / New Opportunity with Growth Potential!
HYBRID POSITION: 3 full days in the office, 2 days remote (once fully trained)

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL BRING:
- Minimum 5 years’ related accounting experience required.
- Experience in housing, affordable housing, construction, banking/lending helpful.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, v-lookup).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred.
- Prior experience in banking/lending, construction, or housing industry a plus.
The Senior Accountant – Residential Accounting maintains the general ledgers for Conifer Realty’s portfolio of residential properties. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the reconciliation, proration and variance analysis for multiple accounts across the portfolio, reporting functions to internal and external sources with contractual deadlines, responding to questions & requests for information, internally and externally, resulting from monthly, quarterly and annual report submission. All Conifer Accountants fully participate in the annual audit process.
RESPONSIBILITIES will include but are not limited to:
- Prepare monthly & quarterly financial statements meeting demanding required contractual deadlines.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, address and resolve all unreconciled accounts.
- Prepare & submit all required monthly & quarterly reports, as required by lenders, investors and agencies meeting their required deadlines and specific agency formatting requirements.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly financial variance analysis.
- Prepare & reconcile monthly management fees.
- Prepare & reconcile all required reserve and escrow deposits.
- Prepare & submit all required reserve & escrow withdrawals.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and budget review where required.
- Attend financial review meetings and assist District Managers with variance explanations when requested.
- Respond to auditor and investor questions regarding monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement submissions within 24 hours.
- Provide & prepare documents, as requested by auditors within set time frames.
- Assist outside accountants in interpreting property management documents during audit season.
- Prepare annual distributions and respond to investor questions regarding distributions.
- Read/review Regulatory Agreements, Operating Agreements, Management Agreement, Mortgage/loan documents and any other associated documents assuring we are complying with contractual agreements.
- Set up financial statements & all associated requirements during the transition of new properties to Conifer Realty.
- Strive to improve knowledge of the Low-income Housing Business.
- Flexibility to travel to sites, meetings, conferences, training, others as needed.
- General office administrative duties (data entry, copying, scanning, etc.).
EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred or some college with accountant-related work experience.
CANDIDATES' ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE will include::
- Strong MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Yardi Voyager experience desired; or other housing industry software programs helpful.
- Strong Financial Analysis experience required.
- Prior experience working with Budgets needed.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex documents.
- Accurate data entry skills with excellent proofreading required.
- Flexibility for overtime during peak seasons.
- Flexibility for occasional travel (training, site visits, conferences) with possible overnight(s) when assigned.
