We are looking for a Senior Engineer to own and maintain the process of metallurgical accounting and production planning, across all time horizons, within the Kennecott Smelter & Refinery complex (Metals). The role will continue to develop and improve the tools, models, and collaboration for all Metals; and be the touch point for all interested parties with regards to all Smelter & Refinery production plans.

This role is a great opportunity to be part of the technical team for the Metals portion of RTKC. Reporting to the Manager – Metals Technical, you will:

  • Have accountability for the accurate and timely metallurgical accounting
  • Lead and coordinate the Metals Accounting team to develop, improve and execute the site metallurgical accounting procedures, providing for accurate and auditable production reconciliations and reporting systems
  • Lead and coordinate the production planning for the 14 day, 3 month, and annual periods for the Metals end of Kennecott (smelter and refinery) utilizing a Linear Programming production model
  • Work with Kennecott integrated planning function to update the Metals portion of the planning model, when necessary
  • Interface and collaborate with other teams such as Metals Operations, Metals Asset Management, Marketing, Finance, Group Risk, Mine and Concentrator Planning, and Integrated Planning
  • Facilitate Metals planning meetings to engage stakeholder for both planning inputs and outputs
  • Perform as a credible technical resource for the smelter and refinery
  • Utilize problem solving/project leading tools and soft skills to facilitate working sessions / training to develop and implement new tools to optimize value for the value stream

What you’ll bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • B.S. degree in Mining, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering or relevant work experience
  • Understanding of planning processes
  • 5+ year of experience in mining or processing
  • Strong commitment to driving safety culture

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with process modelling & constraint theory
  • Exposure to reading and interpreting industrial production data
  • Project management skills

Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
