The Senior Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist will lead the development of GIS data for a wide variety of professional services and Programs within the Utility and other Market Sectors. This position will also lead development of GIS and digital solutions across multiple Global Practices, using our business partnership with ESRI, to build client-facing digital tools, workflows, and applications. The Senior GIS Specialist will lead functional teams to deliver GIS data and GIS services to our clients, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer commitment, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement.

This position will lead a variety of GIS analysis, GIS data development, GIS data maintenance and data preparation for use in environmental studies, permitting, routing & siting, pipeline, transmission & distribution, renewables, real estate, remediation, and stakeholder management type projects.

  • Lead production of GIS data and mapping deliverables for the Environmental Studies, Natural & Cultural Resources, and other departments while supporting both internal and external project teams.
  • Lead the development of technical specifications, project approach, cost estimates and schedules. Work closely with the client and contractor to meet project deliverables.
  • Lead GIS mapping and data collection projects, including automation or AI solutions.
  • Develop enhancement software packages using information from various sources (MS Access databases, MS Excel spreadsheets and documents such as deeds, field notes etc.) to import GIS maps.
  • Lead the transformation of digital solutions and AGOL using the GIS platform for Burns & McDonnell’s Environmental Studies practice.
  • Act as a coordinator / liaison with other global practices, regional offices and international GIS users on activities related to service offerings development and inter-organizational alignment.
  • Integrate GIS solutions with multiple Global Practices.
  • Develop and recommend GIS system needs and requirements and implement improved work methods and quality control of deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing and potential clients, customers, ESRI, and contractors in order to develop business.
  • Develop sales pursuits and proposal development.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science or closely related natural science field, with master's degree in similar field a plus. Applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Minimum 14 years’ experience working in the ArcGIS desktop environment is required (ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or higher a plus).
  • Prior GPS and applicable natural science field experience a plus.
  • Excellent GIS skills, including data analysis abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
