An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant to come and work with the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of the Integrated Sexual Health Service (ISHS) from the community based clinic in Crawley.

They will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the screening of asymptomatic patients for sexually transmitted infections and support qualified nursing and medical staff through the diagnostic process. Training will be provided for the right candidate to build up their skills if required.

As part of the wider ISHS team they will work towards ensuring service provision meets the Key Performance Targets and professionally recognised standards and services in line with National and local strategy as well as the Department of Health ‘15 Steps’ quality criteria. They will uphold the Trust values and support Patient First, a trust-wide approach to improving the quality of care offered to patients.

Assisting in the promotion of treatment, control and prevention of the spread of STIs including HIV, they will offer patients basic information, support and health education in a safe, friendly, non-judgemental and confidential environment.

At times of need they will undertake a reception service or provide support to the administrative team to ensure effective patient flow in the department, enabling clinical staff are able to provide treatment and care to patients.

History taking . Assessment skills required to support decision making on correct pathway and for specimen collection

Microscopy . The preparation and reading of slides under the microscope to support the diagnostic process

Chaperone skills including assisting in the taking of specimens whilst ensuring the safety, comfort and dignity of the patient at all times.

Able to perform urinalysis, pregnancy tests and take bloods

Good knowledge of Infection control and prevention.

Tact and diplomacy skills for triaging patients into appointments and providing front of house reception duties.

Confidence and persuasive skills for instruction or training to groups around mostly predetermined sexual health issues

Crawley is a busy clinic which provides services over a 6 day working week. The post holder will be a member of the multi-disciplinary team. This includes nursing, medical, health advising, administration and management staff.

History taking from asymptomatic patients using assessment skills to decide on required screening tests, care and treatment needs.

Microscopy . The preparation and reading of slides under the microscope to support the diagnostic process

As a chaperone supports the patient undergoing examination and assists in the taking of specimens whilst ensuring the safety, comfort and dignity of the patient at all times.

Carries out urinalysis, pregnancy tests and takes bloods

Supports the Central booking Team, providing cover when required, triaging patients into appointments and providing front of house reception duties.

Occasional support of Health Promotion team at events, providing advice, instruction or training to groups around mostly predetermined sexual health issues.
