Job description
The Building Inspector - Code Enforcement receives and investigates code violation complaints, enforces building and municipal codes, conducts building inspections, attends court proceedings, and performs other related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and computer skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to read, interpret, and apply City ordinances and codes.

Certification Pay:
Texas State Plumbing Inspector's License - $1,300/year- Other ICC related certifications in the following categories are awarded $650/year up to a max of four (4) total paid certifications in this category. This equates to max of $2,600/year for possession of four (4) or more of the below certifications:
- Building Code Certification.
- Residential Code Certification.
- Mechanical Code Certification.
- Electrical Code Certification.
- Plumbing Code Certification.
- Energy Code Certification

- Manages complaints regarding various codes, either on the phone, in office meetings, or during on-site inspections. Works with the general public to obtain compliance.
- Makes on-site inspections to ensure compliance with applicable City ordinances and building codes.
- May review plans for minor building projects such as carports, fences, driveways etc.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
- Two years of experience in Code Enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and related field experience.
- State Code Enforcement Officer Certification or ability to attain within one year.
State Code Enforcement Officer Certification.- Texas State Plumbing Inspectors License or the ability to attain within two years.
- Certification in one of the following Commercial or Residential Codes:

Building Services Inspector III ( $21.26 - $26.57/hr. DOQ)
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
- Three years experience in a paraprofessional municipality related role.
- State Code Enforcement Officer Certification or the ability to obtain it within one year.
- Texas State Plumbing Inspectors License
- Certification in two or more of the following Commercial or Residential Codes:
- Building
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Plumbing

- Energy Conservation
PREFERRED:
- Certifications in three of the Commercial and/or Residential codes listed above.
- State Code Enforcement Officer Registration, Texas Department of Health.
Building Services Inspector IV ( $24.06 - $30.07/hr. DOQ)
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
- Five years experience in a paraprofessional municipality related role.
- Texas State Plumbing Inspectors License.
- State Code Enforcement Officer Certification or the ability to obtain it within one year.
- ICC Certification as a Combination Commercial or Residential Inspector.
PREFERRED:
- ICC Combination Inspector.
- State Code Enforcement Officer Registration, Texas Department of Health.
Successful candidates will have knowledge of City, State, and National codes. Ability to read plans, inspect structures for code compliance and to communicate with contractors and the general public. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public. Experience making sound decisions and using good judgement when working with customers or the public.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
