Your Opportunity
This highly visible role provides a unique opportunity for a motivated accounting professional to work with leaders, managers, Accounting Policy, Regulatory Reporting groups, and external vendors on the largest portion of the Company’s balance sheet and a major driver of revenue, including a recently implemented treasury platform for our capital markets activity in securities and derivatives. The role includes managing the ongoing accounting for Schwab’s large portfolio of securities and derivatives, funding activities, and hedge accounting. The role also includes oversight of SOX compliance over investment and hedging activities, implementation efforts related to our capital markets system, and fair value measurement and testing. Performing this role requires ongoing interaction with the Treasury Capital Markets group and acting as the Bank Accounting team liaison with the trading desks. As part of the Corporate Controller’s Department, the Bank Accounting group is responsible for closing the books for the three bank charters and a trust company with over $300B in invested securities.

What you are good at
Act as the accounting lead in the ongoing implementation of derivatives and hedge accounting, including partnering with the Accounting Policy team on the application of technical accounting standards to various hedging strategies using derivative products like swaps, caps, and floors.- Oversee the ongoing accounting for available for sale and held to maturity securities.
- Support the team in partnering with the liquidity team on funding initiatives such repos, FHLB/FRB funding sources, etc.
- Respond to questions from SEC Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, and the external auditors regarding derivatives and investments.
- Manage a highly qualified team through implementation activities, operational accounting support and month end close.
- Other ad hoc initiatives, as needed.
What you have
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, and/or Finance- CPA and/or CFA Preferred
- 8-10 years accounting or finance experience, direct experience with securities and derivatives accounting highly preferred
- Operational accounting and treasury and accounting systems experience in a high transaction volume environment
- Implementation and testing of accounting and treasury systems as well as project management experience
- Experience with Adenza software (formerly known as Calypso Technology) a plus
- Relevant bank, financial services, and/or treasury experience a plus
- Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate complex information in a concise and understandable manner
- Ability to manage a team as well as manage multiple projects that vary in scope and complexity
