Spectrum provides services at many of Maine’s hospitals throughout the state and in eastern New Hampshire.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager Therapy ensures the efficient and effective operations of all PT/OT sites working with a dynamic multidisciplinary team, and responsible for leading and assuring patient quality and outcomes. Position includes providing direct therapy services to patients; treating patients in consultation with a physician or on a prescription basis. Through planning and providing therapy to patients the goal of regaining physical function or adjust to disabilities is achieved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains efficient and effective department operations while requiring compliance with all state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols
  • Provides leadership guidance, coaching, training and development of teams and individuals. Develops and sustains high-performing teams through modeling positive interactions and value-based actions and decisions
  • Manages performance of direct reports, providing timely communication, feedback and counseling
  • Directs daily case schedule and develops work schedules to meet department requirements and time off requests for direct reports
  • Monitors actual budget performance against budget plan identifying adverse trends, drivers of adverse performance, and developing effective budget plans
  • Establishes, negotiates, and manages preferred provider contracts with other practices, schools and employers
  • Responsible for all Athletic training services through manager’s direct reports, and ensures all high school and college contractual partnerships are current and appropriate
  • Ensures all staff, equipment, resources, etc. meet the service needs of outpatient therapy.
  • Reviews patients’ medical history and any referrals or notes from doctors or surgeons
  • Diagnoses patients’ dysfunctional movements by observing them stand or walk and by listening to their concerns, among other methods; identify and meet patients’ goals and needs
  • Communicates and coordinates with patients’ physicians to ensure a consistent level of care
  • Devises detailed treatment and care plans for each of the patients, outlining the patient’s goals and the expected outcome of the plan
  • Accurately and timely documents all evaluations and treatments in accordance with company policy
  • Uses exercises, stretching maneuvers, hands-on therapy, and equipment to ease patients’ pain, help them increase their mobility, prevent further pain or injury, and facilitate health and wellness
  • Offers cost-effective treatments that help improve clients’ motion and mobility; Reduces the need for medications and provides alternatives to surgery
  • Creates fitness- and wellness-oriented programs tailored to patients’ specific needs; Evaluates effects and monitors and communicates progress
  • Exercises independent judgment based on experience to implement effective treatment combinations
  • Evaluates a patient’s progress, modifying a plan of care and trying new treatments as needed
  • Educates patients and their families about what to expect from and how best to cope with the recovery process
  • Maintains confidentiality

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures ongoing and effective staff development by overseeing and/or coordinating direct report education and certification activities.
  • Maintains statistical data for reporting to leadership and committees.
  • Ensures all equipment maintenance is done on a regular basis through communicated and/or delegated requests of Facilities Manager.
  • Develops work schedules to meet department requirements and time off requests for direct reports.
  • Ensures that time, attendance and paid-time-off records are properly tracked and reported.
  • Ensures development of strong positive relationships and collegiality among the organization’s resources and staff
  • Provides quality, personalized and evidence-based care and proven interventions
  • Motivates patients during treatment to help them function optimally
  • Promotes clients’ healthy lifestyle by improving strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination
  • Consults and practices with other health professionals
  • Keeps abreast of current issues involving patient care or practice issues by attending and participating in department, team and practice meetings; Coordinates and leads regular staff meetings
  • Displays cooperative behavior and interacts positively and effectively with others to promote a team environment
  • Demonstrates professionalism at all times
  • Performs other duties necessary to maintain the overall efficiency and continuity of the clinics
  • Is proactive in identifying, reporting and participating in the resolution of any potential or actual patient safety issues

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school with a degree as a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist
  • Master’s or Doctorate in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy from an accredited school
  • Maine State Physical or Occupational Therapy license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
  • ACLS certification desired
  • 3+ years management experience in a medical setting preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience providing therapy services preferably in outpatient orthopaedics
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in relevant area of practice. Thorough knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, with knowledge of the musculoskeletal system. Current knowledge of medications and their effects on the human body
  • Understanding of finance, insurance, billing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff
  • Skill in time management, prioritizing and medical care coordination
  • Ability to organize and accomplish tasks, and have the flexibility to meet changing demands on daily basis
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to project and maintain a professional image
  • Ability to work independently and excel as part of a team
  • Excellent customer service skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Daily use of computer operating instruments; stationary PC, Laptop PC, keyboard and mouse
  • Light lifting of paperwork, folders or other general record keeping materials
  • Operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone & voice mail system, stationary/lap top computer, e-mail system, scanner, and copier
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently
  • Walks frequently
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Risk of exposure to hazardous conditions and blood borne pathogens
  • Frequent reaching, twisting, bending
