In the rail market we have recently secured more frameworks with Network Rail like the Track Ancillary Framework for the Kent & Sussex; and another Track Ancillary Framework with Transport for Wales, LU & DLR Projects to name a few.

We are seeing interest grow throughout the UK with opportunities in Scotland and the North-West as well as high profile customers seeking our support in major High Speed 2 opportunities. Looking slightly further ahead, we are now starting to position our company for Network Rail Control Period 7 (2024-29) and are commencing a highly important strategic project in the West Midlands where we are trialling an innovative and collaborative commercial approach which we will be able to showcase in future tendering efforts.

Given the recent successes outlined above, we are seeking to recruit a Senior Planner to join the planning and project controls team. To be successful in this role you must have excellent team leadership and mentoring skills along with a prolific background in project planning using P6 with in the rail infrastructure sector.

You will be an excellent leader to lead a team of Planner to deliver on P6 programming, cost and time while adding value and expertise to work winning on rail, LU and TFL opportunities.

The role is to manage and evaluate project time for the project and correlate cost and risk assessment. Manage project planning systems, policies and standards and ensure compliance of planning activities across individual projects to support the successful delivery of projects.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage the integrated P6 programme meeting the internal / external reporting timelines.
  • Correlate schedule, cost and risk assessment through integrated solutions to influence critical path analysis thus providing robust/quality plans for decision making.
  • Lead in What-if scenario planning providing integrated solutions to programme/project conflicts and recoveries.
  • Manage and monitor processes to integrate scheduling from across all projects within the area of work.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to maintain programme schedules and manage the interface between schedules.
  • Support contractor requirements working with the Planning Manager and/ or Project Controls Manager. Sustain - lead the evaluation of contractor interface reporting including earned value management performance.
  • Collaborate with project delivery teams and external stakeholders (including suppliers, regulatory bodies, and the Department for Transport) where necessary to integrate all time, cost and quality information to support the monitoring of project performance.
  • Capture and communicate best practice project planning policy, processes and procedures across the business to drive continuous improvement and provide specialist advice where required.
  • Manage the development of your team member(s), motivate and inspire, set and review annual objectives, provide constant feedback, identify any training needs, mentor/ coach, keep team member(s) informed and engaged. Provide support and advice to your team member(s) at all times and ensure that all tasks are being delivered to a high level of quality.
Job Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Qualified project manager, or similar professional qualification, with a strong track record of achievement in planning and project management within large scale infrastructure projects.
  • Qualified in P3 and P6 primavera planning.
Experience:
  • The ability to deliver Project Schedules at various GRIP stages, developing from first principles and ensuring the schedules are maintained effectively
  • Experience and knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial aspects relating to planning/programming
  • Experience in rail infrastructure planning/programming
  • Primavera P6 planning - proficient user
  • Demonstrable understanding of commercial elements within large, complex projects, and a track record of achievement in complex projects
Technical Proficiency:
  • Numerate and able to demonstrate strong excel, project and PowerPoint skills, computer literacy is essential.
  • Understanding and working experience of Primavera P6
  • Understanding of SSOWP NR Standards 044 and 019 (e-learning module)
  • APMG Project Planning & Controlâ„¢ Foundation and Practitioner (or working towards), or PRINCE
  • CIOB Member and or ICE Member
  • NEC and NR Suite Contract awareness training
Additional Skills:
Project Management post previously held advantageous but not essential.
