Job description
Provides direction and monitoring of maintenance activities and small capital projects within his/her assigned building(s) and area. Works independently to provide engineering support to a production plant or an area.
Responsible to define, organize, plan, and execute all small capital investments projects to be cost effective, timely, and safely utilize state of the art engineering concepts. The incumbent has to ensure all activities in assigned area are in accordance with accepted engineering practices, regulations, cGMP and Evonik Corporation policies and standards. This position provides technical means for safe and high quality operation. The Plant Engineer III can also be asked to be project responsible on medium sized capital projects and for some new product estimates.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The major activities or end results necessary to fulfill the position requirements on an ongoing basis. This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, or effort, associated with the job.   • Provide technical expertise, technical services, small capital project delivery for assigned customers at Tippecanoe Laboratories.
  • Coordinate small capital and technical change projects through design, construction, commissioning, and qualification, and start up. This may include developing scopes, managing change controls, and generating and executing system qualification packages.
  • Responsible for meeting site objectives in core areas of small capital project delivery, plant engineering support, equipment reliability, improvement of equipment systems, and key support for productivity projects utilizing both external and internal resources in assigned area.
  • Make and strongly influence key decisions and successfully manage time schedule, costs, quality, and plant/ area operability.
  • Develop a maintenance strategy for assigned building(s)/ area. Maintenance budget planning, supervision and control of maintenance in assigned cost centers.
  • Prepare accurate and timely engineering expense reports as required by the site, the business line and Evonik Corporation. Utilize in order to drive improvements in reliability and costs.
  • Responsible for development of the investment and asset strategy for current and future business in within the assigned area.
  • Responsible to own and drive continuous improvement and optimization process with regard to equipment operation and reliability in assigned area.
  • Monitor and report assigned cost center metrics on a regular basis.
  • Introduce and implement standards, tools, procedures, safety, cGMP and compliance initiatives in assigned area. Address gaps proactively.
  • Support daily operations including equipment troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis to assure technical availability. Work with and influence process engineers to improve regulatory compliance, reliability, and safety.
  • Originate/ develop technical changes, improvements, along with supporting documentation.
  • Serve as Project Responsible/ Project Manager or consultant when necessary on larger capital projects/customer projects.
Quality
  • Each individual is responsible to meet fundamental cGMP requirements relating to their conduct and work practices to ensure the SISPQ (Safety, Identity, Strength, Purity, Quality) of the products manufactured at Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories. This includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Adherence to all written instructions.
  • Timely reporting of all deviations to supervision.
  • Training on each activity is completed and current and that each employee understands their assigned duties.
  • Strict documentation practices are followed to ensure that all steps of the operation are appropriately documented.
  • Ensure to maintain the work area in a state of cleanliness and sanitation through good housekeeping practices and applying good personal health practices.
  • Ensure the security and safety of the product through the reporting of any potential risk to supervision immediately.
  • Ensure the safety of the personnel and product by wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) according to the operation being executed.
  • Each individual should report any action that they believe could impact the SISPQ of any product immediately to supervision.
  • A senior plant engineer could be assigned as leader of root cause investigator for equipment related quality events.
  • Senior Plant Engineer would be expected to participate and/or lead Quality Risk Assessments for equipment.
Environmental, Safety, Health, & Security (ESHS)
  • Adhere to ESHS programs, rules, procedures.
  • Assume personal accountability for individual behaviors related to ESHS activities.
  • Have the appropriate knowledge and tools prior to performing a task.
  • Complete all required ESHS training and remain current with applicable learning plans at all times.
  • Report all injuries to Employee Health Services or Security and supervision within the same shift of the incident occurring.
  • Inform direct supervision of any ESHS hazards or concerns in the workplace.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to coworkers on both safe and unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Actively participate in the ESHS management system as directed by supervision.
  • Initiate and lead projects based on inherently safer design concepts.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and participate or lead Equipment Hazard Analysis

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering and significant industrial/technical experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in heavy industry, plants, utilities or environmental control systems and waste treatment
  • Possess a highly effective knowledge of plant design, production, project management, maintenance management, policies and standards in assigned area.
  • Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem solving skills to maintain customer, area, and business needs.
  • Skills in successfully overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities for improvements.
  • Ability to implement the fundamentals of project management and plant engineering.
  • Human relation skills with emphasis on oral and written communication are essential.
  • Ability to influence groups without having direct supervisory responsibility
  • Good computer skills in a variety of software packages (MS Office, SAP)
  • Capable of managing a budget greater than or equal to $2.5M -$3M/yr
  • Experience in chemical or pharmaceutical processing equipment/ unit operations
