The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

This role is based within the Research Group in Breast Health (RGBH) in the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science at the University of Portsmouth (port.ac.uk/breastresearch), although is in collaboration with the University of Lincoln. The RGBH are internationally renowned for research on the biomechanics of the breast. The group are responsible for many of the scientific publications in this area and regularly present work nationally and internationally. In addition, the Biomechanics Research Group at the University of Lincoln houses the industry facing Motion Capture Hub. The group are well established in coordination analysis, specifically relating to human-equipment interaction.

The RGBH are looking to recruit a full-time, fixed term post-doctoral Senior Research Associate to join the team and contribute to a project involving exploratory research for the National Police Wellbeing Service, funded by the College of Policing. Innovative methods will be developed to respond to a need for investigation into the interaction between bra products and personal protective equipment (e.g. body armour and tactical vests). The position will involve funded travel to the University of Lincoln to collect motion capture data.

No previous experience in breast health is necessary, but knowledge and experience in biomechanics or relevant areas is essential. The candidate would be responsible for recruiting female participants to take part in sensitive data collection, therefore discretion and good interpersonal skills are essential. The role involves regular contact with the funder and related contacts, research data collection, analysis and writing up and presenting of findings.

Informal enquiries are encouraged and can be made to Dr Jenny Burbage, Principal Investigator, (jenny.burbage@port.ac.uk).

The University of Portsmouth believes this role is eligible for sponsorship with UKVI under the Skilled Worker Route visa, and meets the minimum salary requirements to obtain the minimum points requirement.

We kindly ask that candidates do not send CVs or cover letters as these will not be considered.
