The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University located in Palisades, New York, is seeking s Senior Staff Associate I for a full-time, career opportunity. The Senior Staff Associate I (SSA-I) will help co-design and coordinate research-related activities, with a focus on the Consortium for Climate Risk in the Urban Northeast (CCRUN) Project. The SSA-I will work closely with the Lamont Research Professor—who leads a small group of graduate students, post-docs, undergraduate students and research staff associates—and will help develop new partnerships related to climate impacts and adaptation research. The Senior Staff Associate I will: Contribute, as an author and/or editor, to the publication of scientific papers, white papers, and high-level climate change assessment reports; Conduct literature review, data collection and analysis and contribute to writing research reports utilizing technical expertise; Engage in the preparation and presentation of research findings and results, and travel to workshops and conferences domestically and internationally, as needed; Assist in the development of research proposals for the PI; Manage and coordinate tasks that support the goals of CCRUN and related climate impacts projects. Monitor project award spending and help plan scientific workshops; and Supervise GRAs as appropriate based on project needs and funding.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with Lamont Research Professor and other members of the research group on the overall research design and coordination of multidisciplinary programs studying the impacts of climate change, with a focus on the Consortium for Climate Risk in the Urban Northeast (CCRUN); as well as help build and maintain new scientific partnerships including with the Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center and MACH.
- Develop research project materials and present complex information and results to stakeholders and diverse expert and layperson audiences, including travel as needed (domestically and internationally) to scientific conferences, workshops, and meetings.
- Perform data collection, analysis, and literature reviews for CCRUN-related projects and write research reports utilizing technical expertise.
- Contribute to writing, editing, and review of state-of-the-science journal papers and reports.
- Contribute to research concept planning, proposal writing, and proposal budget scoping, drafting, and justification.
- Manage and coordinate CCRUN workshops and webinars, monitor research grants, and supervise GRAs as appropriate based on project needs and funding.
- The SSA-I will work independently but will meet with supervisor on a regular basis (about once per week) to discuss research activities, results and outline next steps for the work.
- Under the direction of the Lamont Research Professor, will coordinate and carry out research related to the assigned projects and help plan follow-up research. Independent judgement and initiative are required when carrying out research activities.
Appointments are made on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for renewal each July 1st, contingent upon performance and funding.

Salary range $100,000-$105,000
