Job description
The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems, particularly in the areas of airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing. Will perform work on full system prototypes, experiment campaigns and technology component development. Particular development roles within the Sensors Division include RF analog/digital hardware, acoustic hardware, signal processing algorithms, machine learning algorithms, tracking/fusion, as well as real-time embedded processor implementation.
The Electronic Warfare and Novel Capabilities Group (EWNC) in the STR Sensors Division develops advanced signal processing algorithms, conducts experiment campaigns, and prototypes systems for next generation radar and electronic warfare systems. Design, build, and test roles within the Group include RF analog/digital hardware, advanced electronic warfare algorithms and techniques, signal processing, cognitive electronic warfare applications, optimization, and real-time embedded processor implementation.
As the Signal Processing Researcher to develop and demonstrate novel signal processing, optimization, and machine learning algorithms for advanced electronic warfare and sensor applications. These algorithms will be integrated into models and simulations at various levels of complexity and demonstrated on hardware in a field or laboratory setting.
A successful candidate will have working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: optimization, electronic warfare, adaptive signal processing, machine learning, algorithm development, test & evaluation, model & simulation, systems engineering, radar systems, or communications systems. This position requires skills working as part of multi-disciplinary teams designing and analyzing signal processing algorithms for complex systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop system concepts, radar signal processing algorithms, and RF solutions to remote sensing challenges.
- Work as part of a small, focused team to develop and implement novel sensing, electronic warfare, and signal processing systems.
- Modeling and Simulation of advanced RF systems.
- US Citizenship with active Security Clearance, and eligible to support special access programs.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in advanced research and development projects.
- Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python as well as other higher-level languages
Requirements:
- 2+ years with a PhD, 4+ years with a MS, 6+ years with BS
- Strong Mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art, incorporate recent research and apply to current problem sets.
- Understanding and experience in interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical solution.
- Ability to create and present deep technical briefings as well as high-level briefings to Customers and senior management
Education:
- PhD, MS, or BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art, incorporate recent research and apply to current problem sets.
- Understanding and experience in interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical solution.
