Job Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and train staff.
• Oversee operations at the transfer station to ensure proper and efficient operations.
• Enforce workplace expectations, develop staff, and address personnel concerns.
• Dispatch and coordinate daily and hourly movements of solid waste, organics and recycling throughout the city and surrounding counties.

Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in transfer station or solid waste operations and one (1) -year related lead or supervisory experience (Combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).

Education and Experience Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

License: At the time of appointment must hold a valid Washington State Driver License.

• Experience supervising CDL holders.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with team members from diverse backgrounds.
• Must have excellent customer service skills and safety awareness.
• Must be in good physical condition as this position will require the ability to support work in all areas of the transfer station operations, including conducting field observations and audits, training staff on SOP's, and investigating accidents.
• Must be able to draft memos, letters, and operational SOP's using excellent grammar.
• Experience creating daily work schedules and shift picks.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work on multiple tasks with changing priorities and tight deadlines.
• Ability to take initiative and make efficient use of time.
• Requires knowledge of supervisory principles and practices, as well as knowledge of the safe handling of hazardous substances.
• Good work attendance history.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

• Work outdoors in all types of weather at a garbage transfer station, around garbage, odors, dust, vectors, and noise.
• Must be able and willing to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
• Occasionally exposed to fumes, gases, and hazardous substances.
• May be exposed to hostile individuals.
• May be required to be on-call 24 hours/day.

The full salary range for this position is $43.34 - $46.68 per hour.
