General Description:
The SFC Bridge Builders Special Needs Ministry Coordinator leads the
Bridge Builders Special Needs Ministry at SFC and reports to the
Minister to Children and Families. This position offers the opportunity to maintain an already vibrant ministry while growing it and transforming it in new ways. This position requires an individual with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills who can be flexible and adapt to a wide range of circumstances.

Responsibilities:
The Ministry Coordinator will maintain the existing ministry programs while adding his/her own personal touches and dreams. The current coordinator is retiring but will be available to mentor and train for as long as needed. The Coordinator will

  • Set a vision for the ministry.
  • Coordinate with the children’s ministry, student ministry, and adult ministry teams to suggest adaptations for all children, teens and adults who need support.
  • Communicate with SFC staff and congregation.
  • Recruit, train and supervise buddies for 9:30 am and 11:00 am gatherings where needed and for special SFC family events.
  • Work with the team to maintain a model special needs classroom in room 109 and staff/teach Friends Alive teen/young adult class at 11:00 am.
  • Gather intake forms and create one-page spiritual learning plans for each student.
  • Identify best practices for volunteer recruitment and retention.
  • Plan, administrate and execute respite events three times/year.
  • Plan intermittent family activities.

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Possess a strong faith and a compelling desire to help students with disabilities and their families experience God’s love/value.
  • Hands-on experience supporting and making adaptations for students with special needs.
  • Education or training on common special needs and potential classroom adaptations.
  • Love the creative challenge of supporting students with unique strengths and challenges.
  • Possess the ability to creatively observe and encourage volunteers working with special needs students.
  • Comfortable enough with above skills to independently observe students and volunteers, act as the Bridge Builders lead at a given ministry hour and make support recommendations.

Compensation:
The Ministry Coordinator will work 15-20 hours/week and be paid
$25-35/hour. It is understood that some weeks will be ministry-heavy
(i.e. respite weeks and some of the early planning weeks).

  • Character – SFC believes that character matters, especially in its leaders. Those who lead must live exemplary lives, modeling the behaviors of the kingdom of God. Staff members are expected to live by the teachings of Scriptures. This person must be a committed Christian leader with a passion for supporting those

discipling middle and high school students. This person must demonstrate a deep personal walk with Christ, integrity, proven ability to build trust and unity, be a team player, and a self-starter.
They also must have a plan for personal care.

  • Culture – This is the DNA of SFC. This leader will embrace SFC’s statement of faith, mission, values, vision, and overall team culture (our Playbook).
  • Competence – Strong administration and communication skills.

This leader must be able to support vision, organize large and small events, communicate (through written and verbal means) with small and large groups.

  • Chemistry – The SFC staff has a dynamic interrelation between team members, so there should be a mutual attraction and rapport that is consistently experienced both from and toward this leader.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
