Job title: Specialist Caseworker -Girls and Young Women Affected by Criminal and Sexual Violence
Location: Face to face delivery pan London, agile working for all other duties, office location Southwark
Reports to: Service Manager
Contract: Permanent subject to funding
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
Salary: £33,545 rising to £40,605

Who you are

You will be someone who excels in building trusting relationships with girls and young women, in order to support them over a prolonged period whilst they engage with the Criminal justice system.

Have experience of delivering effective and appropriate interventions for girls and young women affected by involvement in criminal violence, sexual assault, stalking or domestic abuse ensuring that young Londoners receive the support they need to meet their individually assessed needs.

You will bring wide-ranging expertise as a credible professional around all aspects of criminal and sexual violence, and you will have a lengthy and proven track record of engaging with children and young people and securing services to support them.

You will support girls and young women to understand how the criminal justice process works. This may include children and young people who have displayed what may be perceived as perpetrating behaviours. You will be supporting victims and survivors through the criminal justice processes (including attending court, supporting witness statements, advocating on behalf of the victim’s voice within the criminal justice system) and supporting them to engage with people and agencies they may not trust. You will also make appropriate onward referrals and signpost girls and young women to support services and positive activities.

In this role you will offer relationship-based support which advocates for young Londoners’ needs, celebrates their strengths, and helps them focus on their positive futures. In planning their support, you will consider their experience of trauma, safety and harm across the various contexts of their lives. Interventions will be trauma-responsive and may last up to 2 years.

What the role involves

  • Building trusting relationships with young Londoners to support them over a prolonged period, including while they engage with the Criminal Justice System
  • Delivering effective and appropriate interventions for young Londoners affected by involvement in criminal violence, ensuring that young Londoners receive the support they need in order to meet their individually assessed needs in line with Safer London’s service models.
  • Working effectively with partner agencies and having an awareness of criminal justice processes, and of partnership and inter-agency work around criminal violence.
  • Supporting young Londoners to understand how the criminal justice process works. This may include children and young people who have displayed what may be perceived as perpetrating behaviours.
  • Working with partners, communities, and other key stakeholders to deliver the service effectively in order to ensure that all victims of criminal violence receive appropriate care and provision to help their recovery process.
  • Contributing to the reporting around the service both internally and externally: this may include on occasions giving presentations and leading learning events
  • Working creatively with colleagues to generate project resources and materials as required
