Sports Physical Therapist
Job description
Job description
Part-time physical therapist position available at the U.S. Athletic Training Center.
- Monday, Wednesday from 4pm – 9pm
- Tuesday, Thursday from 6am – 11am
Candidate with three years of experience preferred. You must be a licensed physical therapist in the state of New York and have a background in orthopedics to be considered. We are an out-patient orthopedic clinic based in Midtown Manhattan at 515 Madison Avenue @ 53 Street.
More about our company:
In 1992, Mary Leonard and Gary Guerriero had a brand-new vision. They wanted to bring to the public a training room and physical therapy clinic that normally only athletes would have access to. Guerriero was the current physical therapist for the New York Rangers and Leonard was training many VIP clients that ranged from Sports Illustrated models to rock n’ roll musicians. They searched for two years for a space that could house their facility that would bring their idea to life. In 1994, they secured their lease at 515 Madison Avenue on the 3rd floor.
Their vision of their open loft-like facility began to take shape. They wanted to incorporate both a physical therapy facility and an athletic training room together in one space. Each piece of equipment was chosen with careful forethought and some of it was custom made. From the start, the facility was a sanctuary for many athletes ranging from the Olympians to professionals. Guerriero and Leonard still desired to bring what was available to an athlete and tailor it to the active public.
One day, an undercover reporter came from the New York Times and worked out with Mary Leonard. Only later did Leonard learn her true identity an early career up and coming Jennifer Steinhauer. The facility was put on the cover of the living section and the secret was out!
It has been over three decades since Guerriero and Leonard achieved their goal of bringing the quality of care and attention previously only available to high-performance athletes to the active public. The results have been immeasurable. The center is still home to many high-performance athletes, and the duo and their staff have healed scores of patients who range from pre and post-operative to chronic pain patients. Many of the patients leave the facility not just better – better than ever.
