Title: Sr. Electrical Engineer
Location: Dayton, OH
The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning, control and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GNSS, optical total stations, lasers and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance. We are seeking an electrical engineering candidate with in-depth knowledge of MEMS inertial sensors. The candidate's role would be to identify, investigate, and integrate IMU sensors for and into our hardware.
Responsible for architecting and implementing electrical designs in consultation with the system, control, firmware, and application software teams, in a series of prototype, development and production build phases designed to provide the system with the necessary component hardware.
Works with the product and project managers to ensure that the correct build states are completed as scheduled.
The electrical engineer will also be responsible for an in-depth analysis of the design performance while providing guidance and test plans for the design verification and regulatory teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop inertial measurement unit (IMU) requirements supporting current and next generation CTCT sensor needs.
Lead engagement with industry suppliers for requirements, issue resolution, troubleshooting and combined work for IMUs.
Develop early prototypes for IMU ICs to evaluate supplier performance commitments and CTCT system needs.
Assumes leadership role in finding the expeditious resolution of critical complex technical problems.
Define and support testing for IMU components.
Supports the successful transition of completed products to manufacturing.
Provide input and guidance on various next generation sensing technologies.
Background/Skills:
Master’s degree with 5+ years’ experience or PhD in electrical engineering or other related technical field.
Strong problem-solving and circuit debugging skills.
Strong simulation and analysis experience.
MATLAB proficiency.
Ability to deep dive into concepts and drive new product development.
Ability to use standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, power meters etc.
Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) experience with accelerometers and gyroscopes.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred skills
Familiarity with centrifuge.
5+ years of relevant experience working with Inertial Components (gyros, accelerometers, etc.)
Familiarity with C and C++ firmware development.
