The Sr. Equipment Design Engineer I will support , design, develop, and improve, tooling, and fixtures for new and existing production floor equipment and automation. In this role, you will be required to meet with different teams to determine their design requirements, plan and execute the design of tools/equipment , develop and test prototypes, and work closely with the manufacturing teams to ensure that design specifications are met. This also includes supporting engineering change control and equipment qualification, validation, and installation activities. This role will also assist in designing and developing equipment with counterparts in Aachen, German facility. To be a successful Sr.Equipment design engineer I, you should be mathematically and mechanically minded and have strong analytical and critical thinking abilities with detailed knowledge of engineering and design principles and be able to find creative solutions to technical problems.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Design and develop tooling and equipment for new and existing products to ensure strong production abilities
  • Support design of manual, semi-automated and automated fixtures at various complexity levels to support production demand
  • Uses CAD software (SolidWorks) to create preliminary and detailed drawings as needed
  • Builds models and prototypes of the tools/fixtures and tests the design
  • Identification of improvements for existing fixtures and equipment to optimize manufacturing process and uptime
  • Review equipment drawings for completeness, inclusive of ISO standards, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
  • Support selection and development of fixtures, equipment and metrology with reproducibility and manufacturability in mind
  • Support performing IQ/OQ/PQ of new and existing equipment and fixtures
  • Generation of supporting documentation for equipment , work instructions, fixture specification , purchase specifications as well as documenting the design process, iterations, and test analytics
  • Present concepts to key stake holders and cross-functional team members


Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in a Technical discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Industrial engineering, or Mechanical design
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in equipment engineering, complex fixture design or design environment related to manufacturing, preferably in medical device industry
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of FDA, QSR, ISO, and cGMP requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO/ANSI drafting standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of material selection, characteristics, and usage, metals, plastics, and ceramics
  • Basic knowledge in machine shop, meteorology, and tool usage
  • Knowledge of DFX analysis, application, and measurement with focus on assembly, manufacturability, and service/repair.
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally up to 10% in support of this role’s responsibilities and duties
  • Experience in DOE, GD&T, and Six Sigma is preferred
  • Knowledge of PDM and SAP is helpful
