Job description
Ensures accurate, timely indirect tax compliance, by reviewing tax statutes, indirect tax returns, article configuration, federal, state and local impositions upon product offerings (including containers and intercompany transactions), various fee impositions, point of sale and inventory tax impositions, sales, use and indirect tax audits. Supervision of third-party co-sourcing partners and may supervise indirect tax team members.
1. Responsible for the supervision of third-party co-sourcing partners and/or certain indirect tax team members including goal setting, training, succession development and performance management.
2. Reviews or prepares indirect tax returns, ensuring compliance and accuracy. Return types include sales & use, property, ad valorem, business license, unclaimed property and annual reports.
3. Ensures Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and maintenance.
4. Reviews and applies federal, state, and local statutes to corporate transactions and products.
5. Assists with the preparation of annual indirect tax budgets.
6. Supports corporate initiatives impacting the indirect tax applications and processes.
7. Oversees indirect tax collection, compliance, and audits, reviewing and approving retail product taxability assignments, intercompany movements, transactional analysis, unclaimed property liabilities, reporting and reconciliations.
8. Reviews or prepares monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
9. Manages, assists, and automates the completion of indirect tax and unclaimed property audits, ensuring accurate, and timely closures.
Qualification
1. Bachelor’s in accounting preferred, Associate’s required with equivalent work experience.
2. Minimum 5-7 years of indirect tax experience required.
3. Thorough understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
4. Ability to analyze voluminous data using Excel, Alteryx, and other automation tools.
5. Experience using Vertex O Series a plus.
6. Supports and contributes to corporate initiatives.
7. Excellent organizational skills, with strong oral and written communication.
