Amazon Search creates powerful, customer-focused product search solutions and technologies. Whenever a customer visits an Amazon site worldwide and types in a query or browses through product categories, our systems go to work. We delight customers when we accurately understand their intent expressed via a query or image, and reflect that understanding throughout the search page - from layout to the search results and navigation. We make shopping effortless by helping customers easily explore our vast selection, narrowing down a myriad of options to a manageable consideration set while providing key information to make high confidence decisions with low post- purchase regret. The Search Engine organization designs, builds, and delivers features in highly performant, fault-tolerant and scalable distributed search engine used by millions of Amazon customers every day. It is built with Apache Lucene at its core. We are seeking a Senior Software engineer to drive innovation in this space. In this role, you will work closely with seasoned technologists, scientists and engineering leaders to advance the state-of-the-art search engine that fundamentally changes how customers discover and find products on Amazon. Strong technical foundations, unwavering focus on customer obsession, proven business acumen, and remarkable product vision are necessary to succeed in this role. In addition, you will form strong partnerships with various business teams across Amazon to understand their evolving needs in the core data model, leveraging sound judgement on common core features to implement matching and ranking algorithms. Ability to understand Machine Learning and NLP concepts would benefit immensely when collaborating with Applied Scientists in Search and partner teams. Product development scope for the role includes core system design, companion services, and operational and open-source excellence. The role requires delivery of a complex product at a very high quality bar in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has experience through multiple complete consumer product or service development cycles, and possesses superior analytical abilities and product judgment. Key to success in this position is an equal passion for delivering new features as well as operating the current applications at the highest level of quality, ensuring that our customers have a world-class experience.
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Deep knowledge of programming (including C/C++, Java, Scala, and REST services) and automated build processes.
- Experience in developing platforms with robust extensibility architecture.
- Demonstrated experience in building, delivering, and operating services in a consumer-centric space.
- Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
