Job Summary:

This position is an integral member of the leadership team for the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Business Connect Learning Community (https://www.housing.wisc.edu/residence-halls/learning-communities/business-connect/) jointly administered through the Wisconsin School of Business (WSB) and University Housing. Business Connect is an undergraduate residential community for ~120 first-year business students. With support from the student House Fellows and student program assistant, this position will coordinate a mentorship program and oversee a robust schedule of events intended to provide early and easy access to Wisconsin School of Business (WSB) faculty, staff, and resources. This position is housed under the WSB Undergraduate Program's Student Life Office, but will collaborate closely with partners from Residence Life and Housing.



Responsibilities:
Oversees the daily management of programs, services, activities, facilities, policies and/or processes in order to support student success in various areas of student affairs. Works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Responds to inquiries from University departments, educational institutions, the community, and/or external agencies. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 35% Plans, organizes, administers, and manages processes and operations related to assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • 15% Monitors, evaluates, and modifies processes, procedures, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the Institution's mission, values, goals, and objectives, as well as all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • 5% Advises and enforces Institution policies related to services in Student Affairs
  • 20% Serves as the program or unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups
  • 20% Schedules logistics and secures resources to support the operational plans of the program or unit
  • 5% May monitor the program budget and approve expenditures

Qualifications:
Required (including Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience):
  • 1 year of professional work experience or equivalent paid experience working with event planning and/or program coordination as a graduate student.

Preferred:
  • Strong administrative & organizational skills
  • Effective interpersonal/collaboration skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Flexibility with work schedule is necessary, as weekends and evenings are required.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations


Work Type:

Part Time: 50%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Effective January 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be updated to require that positions earning less than $35,568 annually be considered non-exempt under FLSA provisions for overtime (see https://www.dol.gov/whd/overtime2019/). Based on these rules, if the person selected for this recruitment will earn less than the new salary threshold at January 1, 2020 ($35,568 annually), he/she will be an academic staff non-exempt employee, will be paid hourly and will receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
