Job description

Zeeland Public Schools has an opening for a Student Support Coach at the high school. The Student Support Coach provides direct and indirect services to students experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral problems that interfere with their performance in school, and facilitates communication among school, home and community providers. The Student Support Coach is involved in the implementation of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), also known as MTSS-Behavior.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities will focus on Tier 1 and 2 students.
  • Provide mental health support to students in need.
  • Support implementation of school-wide MTSS-B (PBIS).
  • Check in / Check out intervention for students.
  • Support team in behavior intervention planning.
  • Use restorative practices with students and staff.
  • Member of bi-weekly problem-solving meetings related to student difficulties.
  • Consult with staff regarding student social-emotional-behavioral challenges.
  • Partner with team to de-escalate student behavior.
  • Support and develop trauma-informed school-wide practices.
  • Collaborate with outside community support services, i.e., CMH, DHHS.
  • Responds to crisis situations when appropriate. Member of the crisis team.
  • Work with students, families, and teachers to develop and maintain 504 accommodation plans.

Qualifications:

  • Must have current Michigan teaching certificate with Guidance and Counseling endorsement, School Counselor License, School Psychologist License, or MSW with School Social Work Approval.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices and ethical standards of School Social Work; the relevant state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Current knowledge of the community resources and support systems available to assist students and their families.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parent.
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and prioritize activities to meet deadlines.
