Camp Agawam is a classic Maine residential summer camp in Raymond, ME. We are seeking cabin and activity counselors with expertise in a variety of areas ranging from Sailing, Tennis, Music, Swimming, Outdoor Living Skills, Climbing, Archery, and more. Agawam follows a character-based approach in everything we do - we provide life-enriching experiences to campers aged 8-15 in a tight-knight and tradition-filled community.

Counselors return from a summer at Agawam with new-found confidence and skills that employers in every field are looking for. While serving our youth, they develop critical thinking/problem solving skills, including face-to-face communication and conflict resolution experience in an immersive environment. Counselors grow personal responsibility and work ethic in the context of a team setting. Counselors learn and practice in a safe, but challenging, and highly supportive atmosphere. Staff also report appreciating a break from their phones, which are only available after 9:15 pm!

New counselors are often surprised at the opportunities for leadership development, and how quickly staff are promoted into formal leadership roles. The summer begins with an engaging week of professional development and team building. Throughout the summer, new team members find a balance of both peer and supervisory mentorship. At the same time, Agawam offers the freedom and autonomy to make the summer your own, and the patience to allow you to explore your experience and make mistakes. In the end, you will grow as a leader by learning how to collaborate, give and receive peer feedback, delegate and receive delegated authority, set goals, and speak in public. What’s more, you’ll accomplish all of this while having fun working in the great Maine outdoors!

Given the dynamic nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, counselors will have a special shared responsibility to keep our communal living environment safe.

The ideal candidate has experience working at a summer camp, but other experiences mentoring children and a demonstrated history of empathy, kindness, and leadership are most important. A candidate who comes with certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid is preferred, but Agawam will provide these certifications, and other trainings for counselors with the right temperament and skills. Employment dates are June 10th-August 16th. Required certification trainings may require arrival before June 10th. Position includes room, board, uniform t-shirts, and laundry, competitive salary commensurate with experience. We welcome applications across all backgrounds and genders.

Pay: $200.00 - $500.00 per week
