• 
  9 years of recent, increasingly responsible scientist experience working in a clinical laboratory including service maintenance calibration correlation and validation.
• Strong supervisory experience in respected areas of responsibility.
• Proven supervision experience including oversight of analyzers including peer QC reviews and proficiency testing and submissions.
• A degree that meets the requirements to obtain a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist) license
• Thorough working knowledge of inpatient lab testing, blood, and body fluid analysis, and emergent STAT requests in a 24/7 operation.
• Understanding of Validations, Precision, CV, and Westgard QC rules.
• Proven experience with regulatory agency requirements; i.e. CAP and/Joint Commission;
• Ability to write and maintain standard operating procedures.
• Ability to assign, perform, and review proficiency surveys and perform troubleshooting.
• Ability to analyze QC data to ensure the accuracy of clinical tests, review and evaluate test results before releasing clinical reports; and
• Solid communication skills when working with others, including physicians, nurses, and employees under your supervision.

This position requires possession of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist) license issued by the State of California.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• 
  Schedule and assign work to professional, paraprofessional, technical and support staff.
• Supervise, train and evaluate the work of subordinate technologists.
• Check work in progress and test results to assure reliability of analyses.
• Determine standards, techniques and procedures to be observed by the technologists in the unit, in cooperation with higher level staff.
• Maintain appropriate standards of production and technical accuracy in the unit.
• Work closely with higher level staff in monitoring laboratory quality assurance activities in assigned division.
• Supervise the operation and maintenance of specialized laboratory instruments and check such instruments for operating efficiency and accuracy using standardization, calibration and other quality control procedures.
• Perform both routine and the more difficult or unusual tests or those requiring the use of recently developed or unusual techniques and procedures and the use of new instrumentation.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Maintain a quality control program and keep records for proper instrument maintenance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

• 
  Current clinical laboratory test principles, procedures, and practices in one or more specialty areas.
• Safe use and care of specialized and automated laboratory equipment used in one or more specialty areas.
• Use and importance of a quality control program.
• Laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of a clinical laboratory.

• Perform laboratory tests and analyses with speed and accuracy.
• Interpret the technical and clinical aspects of laboratory examination results.
• Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate personnel and direct the operation of a major functional section of a clinical laboratory.

• Possession of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist license issued by the State of California.
