What's the Short Version?
The Supervisor, Customs Compliance will support the Customs Compliance team with customs broker management and supplier compliance to ensure all applicable laws, regulations and policies are abided by. This position will interact substantially with SanMar's US Customs Broker, internal departments and international suppliers. The Supervisor, Customs Compliance is responsible for providing guidance and leadership to the Customs Compliance team and will contribute to SanMar's success by supervising day-to-day customs compliance operations in order to meet department initiatives and objectives including import documentation, customs clearance, customer service, and problem solving.

What Will You Be Doing?
  • Supervise and train Customs Compliance Coordinators in daily processes.
  • Serve as day-to-day contact for customs broker and external departments to ensure compliance with SanMar’s policies and procedures including necessary declaration of customs information and discrepancy resolution.
  • Review daily customs broker status report to ensure import documentation has been received and processed on time.
  • Monitor clearance of shipments, resolving any issues to ensure reasonable care standards are maintained.
  • Oversee Importer Security Filings (ISF) and support coordinators to ensure ISFs are filed timely and accurately.
  • Assist with the post summary correction process to ensure all corrections are filed timely according to company’s process and US Customs regulations.
  • Create and maintain manufacture identification codes for company database.
  • Provide overage/shortage report to accounting for reconciliation with international suppliers.
  • Oversee customs compliance recordkeeping to ensure compliance with US Customs regulations and company procedures.
  • Assist with development and implementation of import compliance policies, procedures and work instructions while continually looking for improvement opportunities.
  • Create weekly team metric reports and coach coordinators as needed.

What Are We Looking For?
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience Required.
  • 1-3 years of experience ensuring US Customs Compliance.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and proven understanding of US customs clearance and international shipping documentation.
  • Consistently demonstrate strong leadership skills, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills and a commitment to follow through.
  • Ability to identify and take corrective action in resolving issues as they relate to international shipments.
  • Proficient problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and manage data to guide team and maximize team collaboration.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Must work effectively and collaboratively in both a team and independent environments.
  • Ability to handle diverse and complex tasks with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability.

What's Our Offer?
Salary Range: You`ll earn between $65,500 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience.

Bonus: You`ll be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus up to 10% of base salary.

Paid Time Off: You`ll accrue paid time off on a bi-weekly basis based on hours worked up to 112 hours per year to start. Employees also receive 7 paid holidays and 1 paid family day off.

What Should You Expect?
Hybrid: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work environment is moderately quiet. Ability to work on computer for multiple hours with frequent interruptions.

SanMar's Eastpointe office is located near Seattle, WA and our standard working hours are 8:00-5:00 PST. Quarterly travel may be required.
