We are hiring a Full time Laboratory Supervisor position working at our Taylor, Texas industrial water site.
The Lab Supervisor will carry out the day to day supervision and oversight of the Blue Sky WRF Laboratory to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental analysis requirements. Duties include overall laboratory management, developing and reviewing new analytical procedures, preparing, developing and implementing laboratory policies.
What you’d be responsible for
Plans, assigns, and directs the work of a technical staff engaged in performing a wide variety of chemical and microbiological analyses.- Maintains laboratory procedures and all associated equipment.
- Studies and adopts new and improved methods for the performance of chemical, microbiological, and physical analyses.
- Supervises the training of subordinate and operations employees in modern methods of laboratory analyses and the use of sophisticated analytical equipment.
- Prepares written documents such as standard operating procedures (SOPs) and memos for the lab
- Prepares water quality data to submit reports to federal, state, and county regulatory entities.
- Coordinates with 3rd party laboratory for compliance sampling.
- Reviews the work products of others to ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, EPCOR Chemical Hygiene Plan or other standard and methods for water and wastewater.
- Assumes ownership of the lab and analytical equipment
- Uses specialized hand tools to install, maintain, calibrate laboratory analytical equipment
- Handles various chemicals used in the Laboratory
- Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work environment.
- Data entry and review in the lab data repository
- Perform other duties as required.
What’s required to be successful
- 3 or more years of experience in Water Quality, Environmental Quality, Industrial Pretreatment, Wastewater or in a general environmental laboratory
- 1 or more years of Lead or Supervisory experience
- Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
Must be able to perform laboratory practices required to properly evaluate treatment processes, such as BOD, DO, pH, jar test, CL2 residual, turbidity, COD, color, hardness, TSS, TDS and metals.- Strong quantitative skills (analytical, technical, problem solving, attention to detail).
- Ability to operate analytical instrumentation and conduct related analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, listening, negotiation, consulting).
- Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and other software as needed.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work and manage time to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers to include state and county regulatory agencies.
- Able to direct and support staff performing a variety of duties at a variety of skill levels.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously, and use good judgment to prioritize schedule and work tasks to complete work within specified time periods and deadlines.
- Listen, communicate and work effectively and courteously with a diverse group of people.
- Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, contractors and the general public.
- Attend various meetings as needed or directed.
- Complete required OSHA/Safety Training
- Knowledge of water quality standards and regulations (County, State and Federal Government)
- Sample collection, preservation and analysis of drinking water and wastewater parameters
- Field sampling procedures and analytical methods
- Knowledge of Water/Wastewater operations
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).
- Texas Driver’s License required.
