The Reedy Creek Energy Services (RCES) Sustaining Engineer - Civil will provide sustaining engineering services to support all aspects of the District wet utilities and solid waste utility systems at the Walt Disney World Resort including: potable water; reclaimed water, wastewater and solid waste.

The candidate will provide engineering services to support the civil portfolio of capital improvement projects, ensuring consistency with department strategy, commitments, and goals. The Sustaining Engineer - Civil acts as a point of contact with customers and stakeholders for all subject matter expert related issues and ensures that the internal team and external partners comply with the overall RCES vision for the civil program.

The candidate will be responsible for identifying needs and developing the capital improvement program as well as performing duties related to requests for service, utility permitting, and development & maintaining system standards and hydraulic models.

The Sustaining Engineer - Civil, will be a direct report to the Principal Civil Engineer, RCES Engineering & Programs.

You Will

• Subject matter expert to effectively solve problems related to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of civil utility systems
• Review and approve customer Utility Service Requests.
• Responsible for the development of the business plan/portfolio of projects for Civil Utility Systems.
• Perform technical review of construction plans for new development and expansion of utility infrastructure.
• Support the preparation of civil studies, reports, standards, and system models.
• Develop and maintain equipment and construction standard details and specifications.
• Provide engineering and technical direction to internal and external partners.
• Provide oversight for utility system capital planning addressing system capacity, end-of-life equipment replacement and installation of utility infrastructure systems.
• Act as the operation team’s representative in design reviews for capital utility projects. Conduct field investigations as necessary. Quality assurance and quality control auditing of operations in support of regulatory compliance.

You Will Have

• Current registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or current registration in another state with the ability to become registered in Florida within six (6) months of employment. Note that registration in Florida is a requirement of employment
• Demonstrable understanding of key engineering principles and utility operation with experience in one or more of the following areas; potable water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems and solid waste management.
• Five (5) years of applicable education or experience in industrial or a related field.
• Working knowledge of applicable standards and codes applicable to civil utility systems.
• Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods and the ability to interpret design drawings and specifications.
• Demonstrated knowledge of various engineering studies, reports, and condition assessment documents and methods.
• Ability to model civil systems for pressurized and gravity flow.
• Ability to work in a variety of work environments, including outdoor field locations.
• Ability to work extended hours to support system emergencies and adverse weather events.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ten (10) years of experience in a similar engineering or operations role with a focus on condition assessment and asset management.
• Demonstrated expertise with engineering and construction finance (budgets, cash flows, invoices, etc.)
• Familiarity with State of Florida rules and regulations as they relate to water supply and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, solids waste collection and disposal, recycling, and reclaimed water.
• Operational experience and background in standards development or plan review in water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems.

Required Education

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent degree title) from an EAC/ABET accredited institution.
• Current registration as a licensed professional engineer (PE) in the State of Florida or the ability to become licensed in Florida within six (6) months of employment.

Preferred Education

• Master of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent degree title) from an EAC/ABET accredited institution.
