Project/Unit Description

The Information Systems Engineer will be working with the Senior Information Systems Engineer in charge of Enterprise Windows Based Systems in the design, implementation, and management of systems for collateral projects and core infrastructure. The Information System Engineer will also be the primary point of contact for Windows Server support for the Enterprise Applications team.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this job is to lead the technical design and support of our end-user computing environment. Responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the End-user computing environment, including but not limited to windows, mac, and linux workstation provisioning, deployment, and maintenance; leveraging configuration management tools to effectively manage a fleet of heterogeneous systems; compliance auditing, vulnerability and patch remediation; Work closely with leadership, stakeholders, and Project/Process Management to effectively translate business strategy and objectives into technological capability. This position will interact, advise and counsel on a regular basis with staff, third party vendors, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

• End-User IT Device(s) life-cycle management (provisioning, deploying, patching, maintaining, backups, security, networking).
• Conduct IT and security assurance systems research and integrate technologies into complex electronic systems.
• Design and maintain Information Technology (IT) systems to support various sponsored research projects.
• Implement and maintain client and server software used to support project management and software development.
• Cross Domain Data Exchange and Systems Integration.
• Is a primary implementor of Infrastructure as Code for configuration management solutions.
• Virtual machine management.
• Validates security control configuration on systems, ensure all systems are configured to to necessary controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements.
• Actively collaborates with customers and external teams, derives tasks from detailed requirements. Provides tasking to other team members, based off of derived tasks.
• Provides software and merge request code reviews. Acts as the primary gatekeeper for infrastructure as code merges.

Additional Responsibilities

• Manage the lifecycle of Windows Server VMs and physical servers including provisioning, routine patching and other maintenance, and decommissioning in accordance with GTRI security policy
• Manage the lifecycle of GTRI Hyper-V virtualization infrastructure
• Maintain awareness of the current security threat landscape and develop mitigation strategies
• Monitor, tune, and respond to alerts from System Center Operations Manager
• Integrate GTRI Active Directory with Azure services
• Integrate applications with Active Directory Federation Services
• Work collaboratively with the Enterprise Applications team to manage and support on-premises Exchange Server
• Act as a consultant/subject matter expert for Windows Server administration across GTRI units
• Create delegated Active Directory administrator accounts and provision associated smart card

Required Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years experience with Hyper-V
• 5+ years experience with Active Directory
• 3+ years experience with Active Directory Federation Services
• 3+ years experience with on-premises Exchange Server
• Experience with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
• Experience with System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
• Experience deploying and managing enterprise Hyper-V clusters
• Experience with Azure, particularly GCC High instances
• Experience supporting enterprise application environments
• Proficiency with PowerShell

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Secret Clearance
• Experience with multi-domain forests and multi-forest Active Directory environments
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server clusters
• Experience with Veeam Enterprise backup, including multi-site redundancy
• Experience with Microsoft Identity Manager (FIM)
• Experience with Office 365, particularly GCC High instances
• Experience with Windows certificate authority servers (PKI)
• Experience with System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)

• 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Other Technical Degree
• 7 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Other Technical Degree
• 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Other Technical Degree
