Director of Tax
JOB PURPOSE: Overall responsibility for managing corporate tax risk, the tax provision, and audit activities pertaining to federal, state and foreign income tax on a company-wide basis. Provide proactive, timely and high quality services to business leaders to manage risk, support future growth and contribute to overall shareholder value. Work collaboratively across functional areas to support business transactions and strategic corporate initiatives. Oversee activities of the Income Tax Department including staffing levels, budgets, financial goals and workflow.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Minimize Tax Expense:
- Advise management on the tax consequences of significant transactions and possible tax planning opportunities
- Advise management on the impact of new tax laws, court decisions, regulations, rulings and proposed legislation and recommend tax planning alternatives
- Through assistance from outside tax support, develop, implement, administer, update and monitor tax strategies consistent with company policies and practices relative to the reduction of the effective tax rate and/or cash tax expense and future tax liabilities
Strategic Oversight of Income Tax Returns:
- Oversee and direct the preparation and review of the consolidated federal, state and Puerto Rico income tax return
- Review the appropriate tax treatment of items in the federal and state returns and prepare documentation as needed
- Develop and/or maintain appropriate and comprehensive tax compliance practices and procedures to ensure the preparation of complete and accurate tax returns
- Review federal and state estimated tax payments to minimize payments, but avoid underpayment penalties
Accounting for Income Taxes:
- Assume responsibility for quarterly and annual income tax provision preparation and documentation relative to ASC 740, ASC 718 (FAS 123R), and other applicable regulations, including foreign taxes reported
- Develop, implement, administer, update and monitor the Company's internal controls and documentation
Management of Tax Audits:
- Represent the organization on tax matters
- Manage and coordinate all federal and state audits
- Support the negotiation and resolution of audit issues; reach the most favorable settlements possible in terms of assessment and professional fees
- Interface and advise the Company's external tax consultants and determine the appropriateness and scope of use
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Certified Public Accountant or CPA Candidate
- 10 to 15 years of federal and state income tax experience
- Combination of public accounting and industry experience preferred
- Experience with OneSource Income Tax and OneSource Tax Provision required
- Experience with consolidated corporations, ASC 740, FIN 18, accounting methods, and fixed assets required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficient with Excel and Word
