Job Functions and Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete and timely review and preparation of all client tax returns including individual, partnership and corporate tax returns and consolidated and multi-state returns. You should have advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed applied management and supervisory skills.
Responsibilities of a Tax Manager:
- Perform technical tax reviews of all tax returns
- Assume full responsibility of tax accounts assigned, including being responsible for compliance with due dates and monitoring time budgets
- Act as a resource for tax preparers and audit staff on specific tax issues and/or questions
- Assume tax preparation responsibility for the more complex business returns and assume client service responsibility for clients
- Assist with tax accruals and footnote disclosure for review and audit engagements
- Manage time effectively, including the ability to manage multiple engagements at one time to meet deadlines
- Manage staff, including their time and monitor workflow to maintain efficiency
- Participate in tax department administrative projects
- Demonstrate the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment
- Identify specific tax strategies for tax planning purposes
- Apply complex tax concepts to the preparation and review of tax returns (either business, S Corp, C Corp, Individual, Gift Tax or Trusts) including analyzing information and complex calculation of book/tax differences
- Skilled in problem solving i.e., generate and evaluate possible solutions to problems
- Recognize opportunities to expand or offer additional services to existing clients
- Skilled in organizing people, projects, deadlines and work appropriately, taking the time to structure and organize the project for the team including planning and wrap up meetings
- Dedicated to meeting and exceeding the expectations and requirements of internal and external clients
- Have a solid understanding of tax laws in a wide range of areas and an understanding of the inter-relationships and the impact those have on clients
- Maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Master’s Degree in Accounting
- 5+ years of recent tax experience in public accounting or relevant experience
- CPA License is required
- Must be in good standing with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
- Experience motivating, leading, coaching and developing staff
- Ability to organize work effectively and meet deadlines
- Current and extensive working knowledge of tax law
- Strong organizational skills, project management, interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Technical proficiency in our Firm’s tax software applications
