BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Assess and collect data on the functional capabilities of students at work, implement concrete strategies for learning job skills, monitor and report student progress.

Instructional Support:
- Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plan.
- Assist teachers with the implementation of IEPs.
- Assist students coping and social behaviors.
- Participate in meetings on students’ progress.
- Assist teachers with daily classroom activities; prepare/modify activities to meet student needs; assist with independent instruction or lead small groups; inform teacher of student progress.
Student Support:
- Independently and with groups, support individuals or small groups of students on work sites on the campus or in community settings.
- Transport students to job sites and community instructional sites.
- Communicate with families under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Model appropriate work skills and relationships
- Assist in managing student behavior in the classroom and common campus areas in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Support of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:
- Develop task analysis and modify job requirements to meet individual abilities.
- Develop job sites in the community under the direction of the teacher and supervisor.
- Resolve work-site obstacles and provide solutions to improve productivity and task completion.
- Provide training for students with severe disabilities to perform their job successfully.
- Maintain student progress records.
- Provide assistance to campuses/departments as requested.
- Complete and maintain the district’s training for transporting students.
- Ensure safety is maintained in all environments.
Organization Improvement:
- Work collaboratively to improve programs.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District performance.
School/Community Relations:
- Interact positively with employees and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District in a favorable manner.
Organization Morale:
- Participate in team building activities and the decision-making process as appropriate.
- Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
Other Responsibilities:
- Comply with policies established by federal law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of job coaching techniques.
- Knowledge of organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of techniques used in assisting special needs students.
- Skill in working with a variety of students in varied situations.
- Skill in operating common office equipment, hand tools or simple machinery.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.
- Skill in coping with stressful situations.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work responsibilities.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and district holidays.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- Sit, walk, stand, stoop, bend, and push wheelchairs, use lifts, ramps, and specialized medical equipment frequently.
- Hear and speak to communicate with students, parents, and other staff
- Lift and carry up to 80 lbs. from floor to chest and overhead frequently.
- Lift, carry, and push up to 180 lbs. in emergency situations to drag or lift injured students to evacuate.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Work involves moderate to frequent exposure to bacteria, communicable diseases, unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work may involve aggressive, physical contact initiated by students.
- Work involves constant interpersonal interactions within the educational environment.
